It depends - for this one they were drawn as you see them. but for frames where things need to be so tiny that it gets unmanageable, I do draw them large and shrink them down, like I did on frame 1 for this page: [link]

Not meaning to be rude or anything, but I've tried doing an entire comic myself - backgrounds and all. And I FAILED miserably. This comes from someone who has stacks of time on their hands and doesn't have a job (or social life) yet. It is very hard, especially if you want convincing and detailed backgrounds. I don't blame the artist for hiring someone else to do it.
Besides, I think ESDA's backgrounds are awesome.

... A page wit hthree panels, no words, and generic running poses? It took you that long to do this? You don't even draw the backgrounds; it should have taken much less time.
But oh well. It's kinda cool, though I don't know where people are getting 'mysterious' and 'leaves room for the imagination' from. O.o If you actually follow the plot it's quite obvious what's going on; no room for wonder or mystery at all. Which is actually what makes it more boring than the other pages for me, seeing as is lacks suspense in any way.

Don't listen to him Kay, You don't owe people a reason for why you put your art on when you did, unlike some people you have a life. And though you don't do the background personally, you still decide what it needs to look like, you draw and color the characters, and do all the dialog and come up with the story. So don't listen to him your not on a time cloak with your art. Just ignore him, hes a hater.
