errr, it's originally done for CGTalk's Daily Sketch Group forum, topic 'Apollo' with the time limit of 50 minutes. When I reached my 50 minute mark I thought, hm this has a potential, so I spent way too many hours more working on this. I couldn't really bear painting this for much longer, because I seem to have a very short attention span, or something. Anyway yes, it's a bit cheesy, but hey, it was only an overworked sketch. I'm sure there's some sloppy parts in this, something I would fix had I more patience.So yes, this is Apollo, god of the silver bow, distant deadly archer, the eternal kouroi etc. etc. It's kinda funny yet disturbing how he ended up looking more like a Las Vegas male stripper than a Greek god, but ah well.

EDIT: due to many comments/crits I enlarged his head and expanded the right side of the canvas a bit.. and that's not without a lot of prodding from Oz XD

the anatomy looks pretty good to me (maybe too hot). Only thing might be his right hand, holding the bow. I would say study more hands and their behavior. Fingers is acting weird

thanks Natalie, yes, in addition to that Greek gods are also debauched (esp Zeus, he has sex with everything), vindictive, frivolous and many times downright malicious.. In fact the concept of a god being involved with human morality only appeared in the Judeo-Christian times. and yeah, Artemis is his twin, isn't she?

.. you can add "incestual" to that list. XD The Greek gods were really rather silly and gross. But I love the artwork and some of the mythology, anyway.
Artemis is probably one of the most sane Greek goddesses. I don't remember reading about any crazy quarrels or contests that she started or got roped into - no jealous catfights, either. lol .. I just like her because she's associated with the moon. Her Roman counterpart, Diana, becomes a fierce huntress and I believe swears she will never marry any man.
Actually... it's sort of sad I can't remember anything about Artemis. I don't think she had any fun stories because she just wasn't enough of a screw-up to warrant any.

I would have preferred if you have let more space between the legs, makes him stand more natural

I think this might be the first guy you have actually painted abs for. Looks great. I picked up the brush yesterday, and the painting turned out horrible. I had to go back to basics. ALthough the greater struggle might have been due to the fact i was using acrylics..Played guitar hero with my sister. I'm surprised by the musik choice of RATM and some other bands like Die Toten Hosen.
