Description
Has anyone else seen and loved this old cartoon? 'Alfred J.Kwak' (the J was for Jonathan in english, Jodokus in Dutch) was my most favourite cartoon when i was younger, then it just disappeared but after some research i discovered it was a German-Japanese cartoon- Alfred J. Kwak was based on a theatre show by Herman van Veen who also wrote and performed the theme music for the cartoons. The cartoons were drawn by Harald Siepermann.see, alfred was this duck who's family died in a car crash and was raised by a mole, Henk, in the nation of Great Waterland. and shit, he has to deal with some pretty heavy stuff in his life, and some pretty good stuff too. throughout the series he grew up and travelled, eventually meeting Winnie, a black duck, escaping from persecution in her home country, and falling in love. it was so sweet. he also has to deal with the eventual death of his stepfather and political strife in waterland caused by Dolf, his rival who among other things, begins the fascistic 'Kraaienpartij' (Crows' Party) and takes Winnie hostage. but that main thing is that alfred always tries to be noble and kind in a way that makes me want to cry, even when he discovers dolf hiding interracial roots as well as harbouring racist tendecies, he tries to offer his help and understanding, though dolf mistakes this for an insult.
there's this line from the english translated theme song that goes 'he seldom wears a frown, you can never keep a good duck down' and it makes me realise how much i love that cute little duck, smiling and singing in a world as shitty as ours.
Alfred J. Kwak was broadcasted in The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Israel (where Alfred was re-named with the unusual first name She'altiel), Finland, Serbia and Sweden as well. please, if anyone else has loved this show as much as me or has any info about dvds or somesuch, let me know.

OMG <3
By the way, there's an Israeli flash cartoon on the web that carries the memorable phrase "Dolf Is Justice" (or however it is translated) as a title. It's kind of a dark humor thing that involves Barney and sometimes burning victims.. thought maybe you'll be interested to know.
And another thing; I'm pretty sure I can download the Israeli version of the theme song, if you wanna I can send it to you.
I'm pretty possitive they're gonna re-run it over here at the educational channel, they re-run everything. It's great they do that, cause I can catch up on the episodes I missed of the TV shows I watched when I was younger, plus it's pretty nostalgic
She'altiel Quak for government!

yeah, lots of people saw it, but because it kinda faded away instead of making standard retro cartoon history (huge fan of the x-men, turtles and ghostbusters by the way) it's very hard to research-there's no episode guides or nuthin!

ooh, also thanks for complimenting my placement, i wanted to show how cute alfred could be in his own little peaceful way in the face of unrelenting adversity with the military stuff above, i hope it worked.

I've never heard of this before, and it sounded almost surreal at first to read the description. Sounds awful harsh and real for a cartoon (but in a way that's a good thing), so I'll try to track something down...
Badass looking Napoleonic crow, though.. And the duck has a really genuine sort of look to him, seems like you've captured him in the same light as you described him.

oh, it was real sad at some points, but dont let that fool you- alfred had a lot of silly fun little adventures when he met girls that made him blush all funny-like. like going to egypt and sailing and stuff. um. also i'm a hardcore guy that likes cool hardcore things. raar.
