Materials: Collage, Gesso, Charcoal, Pen, Watercolor, Watercolor PencilsA conceptual piece for my drawing class. I'm currently focusing on developing my first series, which is under the title "Haunted". By this, I mean that nagging feeling, as if a memory is on the tip of your tongue. A memory that is fading, but that you can't quite let go.
If you look closely, you can see the whole piece is drawn on top of a collage of encyclopedia pages, because sometimes we are haunted by other people's words and lives.
This particular one came about when I did an image search for "rook". Rooks are one of my favorite birds, ever. But the image search came back primarily with chess pieces, which was a use of the word I hadn't thought of.

The background colours are really interesting, here. Green and gold make a good match. I love how the swirls are a repeating motif in the series, too !

The rook is your favorite chess piece? I literally know nothing about chess, but I couldn't help doing a visual pun, because I was exhausted and tired of the project, haha.
Thanks! Yeah, I think the swirls are going to wind up being the biggest unifying factor. There are three other pieces I've done so far, but they're on campus so I can't scan them in yet. They're the best three, too.

Chess is one of my favourite game, because it's, at the same time, so easy and so complicated

If you can find someone to play with you, the first steps are really easy (learning how to move pieces and such things) ... the hardest part is the strategic part, but it's also the best part

These are just the rough sketches for the actual series(s). So it's a lot to do, because I won't use all of them.
I'll have to see if I can find someone who knows how to play chess, so they can teach me!
