Description aka "Dance of the Rampant Salamander", which I'd have preferred if devFArt would let me have ONE MORE FRICKIN' LETTER IN MY TITLE. *grr* I'm aware she looks a little Lena-esque - that wasn't deliberate, I just like speckly newts.

I had fun with this one; originally she was going to be a symbolic, non-humanoid little salamander-y creature (I know, she looks more newtly, but I don't care), but since I couldn't get her to fit on the page properly I made her humanoid. The background is my dye-work - 5 hours or so - and the rest is acrylic and coloured pencil (mostly acrylic).

I'm planning a partner to it; just bluer, and more demure. Something says "Grecian" to me, so maybe the blue version will look a bit Greek.

Edit: Erf, where did that come from? *brain melts*

Thank you, all... I'll just... go be shy and hide, now... *hides*

(Now watch me go and futz the thing up by trying to edit the description...)

An underrated DD with such unique design of her dancing appearance. Newt is not too famous in anthro community as well as the aqua pet. And yet you had created a bombshell in traditional.

Very nice. The colours do indeed give a very strong impression of fire, despite salamanders typically being water creatures... I don't see anything to criticise, at all. I like it.

Well, it was more the mythical salamander I was thinking of, at the time, as they were thought to be born from fire.

Mind you, that reminds me, I STILL need to do the water counterpart to this...

I understand that, I'm just very literal.

A water counterpart? Sweet!

This has a real nice stylistic quality to it, both in color and in overall shape and movement. Doing it in real media also gives it an extra oomph, I think.

The motion in this is just...too fun!

Thanks.

On a related note, I seem to only EVER work in real media, these days... my computer doesn't like me. *sob*

I'll never understand Deviantart. Someone draws a 5 second picture of Balto and it gets thousands of comments. *Cringe* Breathtaking work, and well worth the effort!

I love this piece!! The color and the motion are outstanding!! You have a fantastic and unique style here, very eye catching. So is it done on cloth? like canvas? or is it something else?

keaalu In reply to LMMegyesi [2005-04-25 11:27:10 +0000 UTC]

Oo, thanks.

Yes, it's done on cloth - the unpainted version is in my scraps *goes looking for the link* [link] There. I dyed it myself over a period of a few days, stuck it to a piece of thick watercolour board and painted on it in acrylic. I was going to do more pencil-work, but it was still too rough afterwards so it's mostly paint.

Wow! neat! Seems like alot of prep-work, but well worth it! I can't wait to see the compement to this piece, the blue one you mentioned.

keaalu In reply to LMMegyesi [2005-04-26 18:55:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, the background is done for the blue one (felt like it took even longer), but I'm hoping I've not spoiled it - the mount-board has cockled. Argh. *chews* So it's going to be a case of "remove mount, try again"...

Considering a more complex zen/chakra-inspired one next, so wish me luck.

Thankee. And I intend to - already working on a "companion" piece, in blues. That is, I'm dying the cloth, nowhere near painting it yet.
