Description
Is there a better category for this that anyone knows of?It's a portrait, done in little tiny dots... and I actually enjoyed it! There are a few things I'm noticing now that I want to fix up, but it'll have to wait until I get the assignment back from my teacher.
So... it's on 11x14" paper, 1/2" border. Reference was this photo: [link] (isn't she gorgeous?)
Used a set of four different sized black pens - 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7... and it's nothing but dots, no cheating... well, the border isn't dots... but other than that, they're all individual dots.
Now, before anyone asks (someone is totally going to ask anyways): I'm willing to do these on commission. Maybe $40 for the original? Just so long as I can get a scan first to put up here and use in my portfolio. Haggling is always acceptable. Just because my portrait work isn't exactly perfect, but this does take a lot of time. And you'll have to allow me at least a month for each portrait. It honestly isn't likely to take me that long - but with my schedule, you never know.

That's awesome! I really think you captured the eyes well. I have only done one portrait of a person in this sort of style (the assignment was do pick a person out of a magazine and do half of their face with ink techniques like dots, hatching, etc.) [link]

thanks ^^
Looks like your work might have been a lot better if you'd been given more time... and some finer markers.

your welcome! I know what you mean, I think I did this in freshmen art and it was the first time using india ink, so I can now really see where I could have done more.

i know this is beside the point, but apparently my friend has his earrings in backward...
as for the drawing, pointilism is always cool...an interesting take on it my sis tried was using a kneaded eraser to subtract tiny dots out of a traditionally drawn piece...just as time consuming, but a completely different look
excellent job-earring is distracting but you have a good grasp of how to frame a face with a minimalist drawing style

um...you lie. just don't have an earring. for god knows why, us young artists love showing piercings in our work. just don't draw it. or pretend it's grey.
i wouldn't worry about it. pointilism probably takes a ton of practice, and as ya do it, you'll get more used to being able to picture the end result ahead of time...it's a good piece in any case

This is actually the first time piercings... well, bold piercings... have appeared in any of my work. Only other ones are frilly dangly earings. I guess I could have made it grey... think it would have made her seem different personality wise without.
