Description

Part 1 (for context and where I started): PaleoPost [2022]

A recent news flared up in a flat-screen TV right at our own living room. The headlines read: "Security guards killed in an office". The television was playing something remarkably different. It was at night, filmed with security cameras. In a flash, I've seen these people dying spontaneously. They looked healthy, yet an unknown force had come to them. Its been a few weeks now, having relocated to a slightly decent, shared room with one of these people, if they were ever called humans.

No, once again, I met these animal folk - again. I've met a few humans online, but they were almost remote from my location. I never have seen a human in this world. Most of the time, I'll see some humanoid with some fur, tail and muzzle slapped on their heads but that's it. I always felt it might be all of a ploy - what if they were really jusst people wearing a suit all along? Just a funny party mask that felt so real that one day, they'll reveal their true intentions and that this is all of a ploy.

I looked towards the owner, who was willing to keep me around for the next few weeks. Like all of the people on television and since I met him, he's a therian, looking a bit close to your average wolverine head with some startling differences, like it had been pulled from a failed operation, but there were no stitches. Curious about these events, which I'd never seen in my world, I approached for answers.

"Okay, okay. I have a question," I asked after seeing those events. This owner was oddly silent, starting to the light from the flatscreen, but was indicative of me continuing my inquiry.

"In my world, we have that little fictional world called the SCP Foundation that people write on," as I told him about how the paranormal and supernatural was perceived back at home. "Their slogan was to secure, contain and protect. I think they could solve that problem, to explain, by their own words, what happened here and link some traces back to find some sort of solution."

"Oh really?" he answered with curiosity. He gave a cold, hard answer of reality. "The Foundation you said is very real here, but its not romantic. These people like you... They keep bringing up this organisation, they... They were always proven wrong."

He kept going, ranting. "The SCP Foundation is already a joke here, on the internet, told by like some fringe conspiracists and outsiders that keep appearing in our webpages. Here, we have the International Consortium for the Research of the Unknown, something that used to be good but they..."

"So... what is it?" I replied. "Are they proactive or something?"

"They're cowards. They were responsible for our state today. Pretty sure they would disseminate coverups after these sudden deaths, that's what they do if they can't find anything when we already have the best resources. If they can solve everything, why don't they start turning us back to normal?"

This person, I remind you, he's born after 1985. He never experienced anything about this change of all of humanity here, but he learnt of this through history books and the internet - despite his resentment of looking accursed, everyone seemed to be going on about their lives regardless.

It all seemed to be a joke. The SCP Foundation is real here? But it felt all so different, weren't they meant to cover themselves up, to amnesticise us? I wonder about their intent. But...

This is not the skip I remember...

Notes and other ramblings
Worked on this for over two days, but now its done. Personally I like the dark mode that computers are now trying to introduce recently, so I tried to maintain this aesthetic on most of the webpages and applications/widgets placed across the 'screen'.

I disliked the SCP Foundation being a top secret in its most bare bones canon, it just feels a little too tacked on, plus I feel like there needs to be some sort of centralised history. I couldn't exactly rip it, so what did I do? Just rip off the SCP Foundation and bam, this organisation was born and so is the skeleton of Project Erebus (the current world's name). Then I incorporated animal people because personal aesthetics and "humans are boring" to draw cliche since 2021. It has been in the works for like three years but I left it in the background or kept it vague. But now that I somehow got some idea in the last few months than in 2021, I think I'll keep the 'canonicity' of this solidified but not too loose as the SCP Foundation.

As for main inspiration and all the funny things, all goes to Siryeehaw on a Discord server for daring me to do a stylised map that he made, well after I made this . There was actually some similar premise between two concepts - about containing and protecting the world through a large organisation tackling anomalous threats, though I diverged heavily and invested on personal aesthetics from my timeline, spawning this. I also made an earlier thing with websites after being inspired by my older, satirical and unseen works. I think that has partly seeped into the whole thing, though not to an egregious degree.

Some of the influences that went into it was this map  and this  too, though I also took on a contemporary aesthetic. To me now, I felt like the points of interests on the map were too tacked on and not relevant to discussion (I mean its nice to see what places are up to, but I don't like listing out numbers and typing them at once, its too grindy) - so instead I tried to do an experimental method in explaining events and this worked out for me. I still kept the POI-styled markers but they're more or less aesthetic with almost incoherent names.

When it comes to like how people talk, I literally had Reddit, Discord and Twitter ripped off and made into its own thing - but it still makes it somewhat familiar without being exactly lost, it gives this public view that I want to emulate, around the world that the ICRU is in (unlike the SCP Foundation which would've been off the grid due to its innate secrecy), even though I changed a lot around the names and stuff.

Then comes the news articles. These were a mix of random stuff that I thought up, but are sorta based on real-life media (see Phoenix's paywall) or are based on certain aesthetics, all of which are about the ICRU or anything related to it. I think the late 2010s/early 2020s distrust translated things well for me. For one, you have some decent journalistic work while others are like questioning stuff, going into conspiracies about the ICRU even, which they deny.

This is where my thought of like, a certain YouTube guy who views the Ottoman Empire, Mughal Empire, the Mongol Empire and Muscovy as socialist and has a fanbase that's egregiously blinded to loyalty to the point that people who even defend anti-western powers have an issue with him pop up. He's in there somewhere as some 'easter egg' if you even call it that. You'll need to find it but I assume you don't and you think its me, its not.

Few of the events or places depicted are inspired by a few things that I have stumbled across like the amalgamate concept, with all that gooey assimilation. I don't know why I like the concept of it, but I just feel like having it done out of context and I like that alien aesthetic.

Anyway, I gotta stop trying to procrastinate, so I'm leaving this as that. Gonna be a lot more busy for the next two or three weeks so that may be it for the uploading spree, but once that's up I should be doing a lot more to whatever I want.
