Description
So, that's my little piece for this month's contest from the Aurora Collective. The theme being "What makes you truly wealthy?"
So i figured i might use this opportunity to update Mammon's design a little.
(his haircut now fits his skintone a little better ^^' Also less outlandish than actual gold hair)
Also, I'm starting to really like that hybrid traditional/digital process.
I added the speech bubbles to explain the piece a little, because you wonderful people are in fact, not in my head, and thus do not know this OC of mine as well as i do, and why he fits that theme, obviously but also not so obviously.
(Look past all the gold, at at the contracts on his wall, and what they might mean in the context of a demon character)
Explanation :
Basically, being the Demon of Greed, he's wealthy like f*ck.
He's got gold everywhere, very obvious wealth.
Thus, greedy mortals make contracts with him, when they want stuff (in my headcanon King Midas did just that, and got his famous "boon" from Mammon.)
The price for such boons generally being that, upon death, their souls become Mammon's eternal servants. (humans are so shortsighted)
And when you have an ever-growing number of ancient kings, heroes, warriors, noblemen, businessmen and the like, in your employ, for free, forever, and with no way out, the value of that insidiously become much greater than more "basic" riches.
(i mean, just with Midas, even if someone steals all of Mammon's gold, he can just make Midas make more for him.)
It's basically the difference between the value of the gold and the value of the gold mine.
Also, since he's basically the archetype of the shady businessman, i liked how the wording comes off. "Double-entendre" style.
At first glance, it might seem like a very humane answer, very politically correct, showing appreciation for others, humility in a way, group mentality, but in truth it's purely calculating, egoistical, and about power and control.
Those people are valuable to him, but only so far as tools/assets can be valuable.
Very "dystopic corporate" vibes.
Anyways, that's enough word salad from me for today.
PS :
For the detail-oriented people among you who noticed the wedding ring on his left hand.
Headcanon : he's married to a fallen generosity-themed angel, dotes over her, gifts her a shitton of stuff all the time, and she always end up giving half of it away to demons and souls in need, to his absolute dismay.
