Great photo! I am an artist and I was wondering if you would give me permission to use your photo as a reference in a painting. I would give you credit for it. My website is ppendergast.com. Thanks, Patty

Hey, love the photo. Just wanted to ask if I could use this photo as reference for a drawing I've been asked to do? I'm not that great, but even still, I didn't want to try and draw something you own without asking. Thanks very much, and keep up the good work.

The picture is awesome, the fur shows so well! He/She is sooo cute... I like donkeys a lot! I don't like how people keep saying they are stupid since they are very intelligent after all. ^^

Yes you are correct, I did use a 18-70 lens. And that is how the horizon was. I just put my camera on a little slower apature and shutter so i could get the blured effect. Thank you for your critiqueing tthe Photo!

Of course!

One word of advice when using DA. If you reply using the button at the bottom of a post instead of just putting something on the same image, it lets the person who you're replying to know that someone has written something. It makes sure that conversations can continue at a decent rate. Also, it makes them easier to understand, because replies are indented in.

As for the 18-70, how do you like it? I have the 18-55, and I'm rather dissapointed with the terrible distortion at the wider zooms.

Ok. Thats good to know! lol

Ya i really like 18-70. It is a good all around lens. However it doesn't do good in low light, like a concert or something. so far it has been good for me.

SublimeChord In reply to Kelabel [2007-02-27 12:31:04 +0000 UTC]

That's good to hear!

I've been thinking about getting either that, or the 24-85 f/2.8, which I believe is made by Sigma.

Kelabel In reply to SublimeChord [2007-02-27 12:36:32 +0000 UTC]

Ya. I haven't used a 24-85. I never really herd of it either. lol

SublimeChord In reply to Kelabel [2007-02-27 13:28:01 +0000 UTC]

Yea. It's a bit of a strange zoom area, but perfect for what I often shoot. I've been wanting to get my hands on one to try it out for a while.

Kelabel In reply to SublimeChord [2007-02-28 01:44:25 +0000 UTC]

What kind of stuff do you shoot alot?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SublimeChord In reply to Kelabel [2007-02-28 02:11:39 +0000 UTC]

I do some rather strange indoor sports events. I want the relatively fast lens because of the dark environment.

Also, many of the things on my page are a decent representation of my work. Lots of nature-y stuff. I'd love the 70-84ish zoom range to get the field of view I've wanted on some of those shots.

Kelabel In reply to SublimeChord [2007-02-28 02:19:19 +0000 UTC]

Ya I like nature too. The lens i Like to use the best is the 18-70. It has a pretty good zoom. However alot of times to take pics of things long distances Like hot air balloons i would like to have a zoom of 200.

SublimeChord In reply to Kelabel [2007-02-28 13:45:00 +0000 UTC]

I also own a 70-300 lens, but I personally find that the lens itself isn't a very good one.

Kelabel In reply to SublimeChord [2007-03-01 01:28:15 +0000 UTC]

do you sudggest any other long distance zoom lens?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SublimeChord In reply to Kelabel [2007-03-01 03:32:56 +0000 UTC]

I've used the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 before. It's on the expensive side, but has excellent sharpness.

Other than that, I haven't had opportunity to play around with many other telephoto lenses.

Kelabel In reply to SublimeChord [2007-03-01 12:34:28 +0000 UTC]

ok i think that might be a good zoom.

SublimeChord In reply to Kelabel [2007-03-01 13:02:59 +0000 UTC]

And it's a little bit lacking in the high zoom area. Like the 200-300 range.

Woot, donkey!!!!

Seeing as you asked for advanced critique... I'm not sure how advanced it is, but I'll tell you what I think.

First off, congratulations on getting the donkey to look mostly at you. That can often be a huge challenge in animal photography.

What's up with the horizon? Is that barrel distortion from your zoom lens (I'm figuring you're using the Nikon 18-70 or 18-55... correct if I'm wrong), or is it just the way the horizon was?

Beautiful gradient in the sky. The pure white is rather unusual where I live, but I've seen similar skies before.

Such sharp clarity! I can see each individual hair on the ears, even though it's backlighted to some degree.

Good job!!
