Category: InvertebratesA White-Lipped Snail (Cepaea hortensis) balancing at the end of a thin twig. What do you think the little fellow did next?
1. Turned around
2. Jumped two feet down
3. Called 911
The correct answer will be revealed tomorrow
Update: OK, time to reveal the fate of the little snail. Actually I'm not sure whether he fell or he deliberately jumped, because I had just started to watch another snail near by, when I suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, saw him dropping down and landing in a pile of leaves beneath. Then, after a few seconds, he came out of his shell and began to move around as if nothing special had happened at all. Anyway, it was a happy ending for our little friend

Thank you, Marcus. The background was against all odds, since the snails were climbing around in a big heap of branches and twigs, but sometimes you gotta be lucky

another good angle. i think he was comtemplating jumping, called 911 asking to be talked down and in the end, turned around and made an appt. at a psychiatrist.

Great shot - and cleverly titled, as well. I have no idea what a snail would do in this situation. I don't think I'd have the patience to sit and watch him decide and then make his slow way back (or to the phone.) On the other hand (which he has none of, so we'll just have to imagine that) he may have thought, "Good-bye cruel world" and been pleasantly surprised when he landed on a soft tuft of grass two feet down.
