Description And there you have it! This is technically the originally planned ending... but I think a little more of this story needs to be told, so I should have a four page epilogue dealing with the Worm up before the end of the month

For now, a little bit of an afterword!
I tried something a bit different in this by starting in the meat of the story instead of at the beginning (i.e., after the "catalyst" has already occurred). It had the advantage of avoiding a lot of exposition and creating a sense of intrigue, but it also leaves a lot of unanswered questions. I don't think I'm going to answer all of them right now, but I will give a little background info:
The elves of Dru (from what I gleaned from the information on the website) are a native race decimated by conquest and disease. It occurred to me that many of their written records and oral traditions may have been lost with the bulk of their race, leaving their modern descendants to try to build anew from incomplete pieces of the past. Living in the desert in close proximity to the dreaded Worms made me think that they likely adapted to live alongside them, perhaps not always peacefully, but in a way that uniquely suited both races
Unfortunately, this relationship was also likely lost after the conquest and the great plague.

So that's that! I also feel like I should give an honorable mention to Dune. I read and heartily enjoyed the book recently, and while this idea definitely isn't derivative of it, I feel like the spirit of Dune is in here somewhere (I haven't seen the movie, though. I've heard it's pretty bad ).

TCoD Contest - 1 1/2 weeks left! Chronicles of Dru Contest
Concept
As some of you know, me and my sisters, DrMistyTang and ratscout have been creating short stories for a little world we call “The Chronicles of Dru”. It’s a series made up of short stories that are either in written/literature form or in comic form.
We are looking for new Chronicles from different voices to include in our series! Your task for this contest is to write a short story (or poem) or draw a short comic that could fit into this world. It's especially a good opportunity to writers who've always wanted to have something illustrated!
As a side note to writers: If you're worried about not placing because you don't have the best grammar, don't sweat. Me and my sisters are looking for great stories--we can always assist you in editing if you win.

Lovely! Wonderful job hinting at bits of new lore for the world, and the simple beauty of whatever emotional turmoil Riyad's going through, tempered by the bond of friendship between him and Asha (also, I LOVE how his design looks really High-Elf-y, and hers reminds me of Elfquest Elves! Hope that was intentional!). Definitely leaves one wanting more, and I definitely see why you won! Well done!

Thanks so much! This story was really a joy to write and draw, and I'm glad you like it
I've actually never read Elfquest, though I've heard of it! I'll have to pick it up sometime!
Thanks again for reading! Fortunately there's some interest in a sequel, so I might have one in the works sooner or later

I really, really loved this~! It was very creative and mysteriously sweet! I also happen to really love stories that don't spoon-feed you every detail. I found it to be very smart and even touching without being too heavy-handed. Great work~!

Thank you! That's definitely high praise
I tried to be careful with the dialogue- one of my biggest peeves in scripting is when a character says something that's definitely for the audience's benefit, and doesn't really make any sense in context.

It does nicely for an ending in my opinion, though I would like to know why exactly they went and got the tooth
in the first place... I loved reading the comic!

It was fabulous!! Thanks so much for entering, you did marvelous work. I will echo Zime and say that I love the expansion of lore for Dru, and how you've left things open to expand on or leave up to the reader to interpret. The imagery on this last page is wonderful (I, too, love the Lawrence of Arabia vibe!).
And needless to say, I would love to see an epilogue!

And the epilogue should come soon

I... loved it! You've added a lot to Dru here and it's wonderful!
And I also love the little tidbits in your description here. Leaves a lot to explore.

And these last panels are pretty epic; reminds me of Lawrence of Arabia.

Thank you so much for taking the time to enter.

Thanks! I had a really good time working on this! I don't think I've ever had such a pain-free time scripting something before
It was great to have the opportunity to write for this universe!

Oh, cool! I haven't seen Lawrence of Arabia in such a long time, I'll have to pick it up again.
