My mind spun, and it was nearly impossible for me to get an actual grip on reality. The 'mon I had trained, raised, live with, and grew to love like a brother was dead, his body motionless in front of me. This whole thing, this death and the numerous others that would take place because of Sorbet's rampage, could have been prevented, if the guilds had not struggled for power. No... I thought, quickly. I couldn't allow myself to think like that. If I were to think of every 'what if', I would get nowhere in life.

It suddenly became clear to me what I had to do. I had to head to the rendezvous point, where Matthew and the others would meet after the tunnels were cleared. I had to make a point; Riley would have wanted that, and it was the least I could do for him.

"Is he...dead?" I heard a deep, confused voice behind me mumble.

I turned around, facing Bastion. "He is. He died saving me."

The Absol dipped his head in respect. "He was very young."

"He was... Bastion...can I ask something of you?"

"What is it?"

"I...I need help getting back to the rendezvous point with...his body. I can barely walk. And, you out of all 'mon know I wouldn't ask for your help if I had any other options."

The Absol was ready to reply sharply, before thinking otherwise. "Yes, Kelsea." He picked up Riley's body, and placed him on his back. "Lean up against me...it won't be too far until we make it back."

I pressed my shoulder up against Bastion's warm fur, and we walked on in silence. The tears had stopped flowing from my eyes, before I looked up as Bastion, his head held high. "Bastion...I...I can't marry you."

He didn't miss a step. "You're in love with that Zangoose, aren't you?"

I was silent for a few heartbeats. "Y-yes...I am."

"I knew it from the moment I saw you again." It seemed that his angry demeanor had dropped temporarily. "I'm happy for you."

"Thank you." Sometimes, there just aren't enough words to describe one's feelings, so I just left it at that.

After what seemed like hours of walking, we finally arrived at the rendezvous point. Many Pokémon were gathered, including Missy, Shroomsworth, Mike, Sandy, Knight, Sprout, Chrys, and Vertigo. Most importantly, however, Matthew stood astute in the corner, blood dripping from a cut on his forehead; he didn't notice my entrance. As I entered, many Pokémon looked upon me with relief, yet when they saw Bastion enter with Riley on his back, looks of horror spread like wildfire across their faces. Bastion laid Riley's limp body down, in sight of everyone. I knew what I had to do.

"Everyone," I called, making my presence known to those who were unaware. Matthew pushed forward to the front of the crowd, a look of horror mixed with sadness crossing his face. He body went ridged; I wanted to run and comfort him, bury my head deep into his fur and cry. But, I couldn't: not until I had finished my mission. "My partner...my brother...my friend, is dead." A few Pokémon cringed as I drew out my words. "He died saving me from Sorbet's attack. This...this didn't have to happen. This happened because the guilds wanted to force their views on the others. Whether you follow the rules, break the rules, or amend the rules...it doesn't matter what guild you are in! This is what each of our desires for power resulted in! The loss of our town, the loss of a hero, and countless more loses as brave Pokémon are out there, fighting to save us." My voice grew stronger with every word. "This Poochyena...Riley...came and joined my team, The Alchemists, from Missy's Daycare. He had a horrible life before joining our team...but, that's what he taught me! He taught me that no matter what your past is, no matter how horrible, sad, or bad, how many scars you bear or how many things you've had to go through, it's not the past that matters: it's the present and what you do with it." I glanced around at the moist eyes of my 'audience', before I continued. "Be thankful for those in your life, because…they won't a-always be there."

There was a long silence, before it was broken by Shroomsworth. "Yes, um...we should burry this young lad, young miss."

"Kelsea." I corrected him, quickly. Pokémon around the room nodded as I said my name, as if taking a mental note. I will never be sure why I saying my name had such an effect, but it seemed to.

"Yes, Miss Kelsea...we should bury this young lad. If anyone would like to help bury this...hero," he added, looking directly at me, "Please come with us, now."

Matthew slowly stepped forward, picking up Riley's limp body. Within moments, around fifteen Pokémon stepped forward, including Mike, Missy, Knight, Shroomsworth, and quite a few others I did not recognize.

"Kelsea, Matthew...I'm sorry," Mike whispered, quietly.

I politely bowed in return. "Thank you, Mike."

Matthew slowly padded out of the crowd, and joined my side. We had returned to the underground room where everyone was awaiting further orders. "Kelsea...I-I should have been-"

"No, Matthew. He died saving me...so I could live and change things, for the better."

Matthew slowly reached a paw around me, silently, his body went rigid, and was in deep thought for a few minutes.

"Matthew....?"

"Could we talk, for a second?" His voice was serious and sullen. He slowly padded to the side of the room, to avoid the gaze of others. He looked around slowly, to make sure no one was looking, before continuing. "Kelsea...after that speech, I think it's time...I told you something I've been...well....I've been hiding something from you," he whispered in my ear, slowly.

"...time?" I wondered, slowly. What could he be hiding...? "Matthew....what is it?"

"My past...what I have done...my name....I've hidden them all from you...my partner, my best friend..." I glanced up at him quickly, and he nodded, silently confirming my question. "My name really isn't Matthew...I should have told you sooner. My name is Kane."

"Wh-why did you change it, Ma...Kane?" Confusion rattled my mind, as Matthew...Kane, continued. That will take some time getting used to...

"I have a dark past, Kelsea." He sighed, a grim expression forming on his face. "I'm a wanted criminal."
