Primary change was a lowering of the flight pod to provide more maneuver space for launching Vipers and to decrease the amount of 'wake' any ships approaching from astern would have to endure in order to make a landing. In practice, though, it would likely be SOP to make an approach from the bow in order to avoid that wake altogether.
