Description
~Arizona Canyon Sunset~This is a sort of an Arizona postcard I wanted to create using Terai Yuki, the Japanese girl you see in the pic. I created a new leotard just for this scene and later on I split it into about 8 variations of it and this is the bikini version.
The real challenge here was the sunset time, which involves a very tricky kind of lighting. There is also the fact that a wet girl reflects a lot of light and saturated color spots easily form over her body. I guess sunset is a time of strong color contrast, so there was no easy way with the lighting. Part of Yuki's hair on the back became transparent when hit by light, but I guess real hair would as well.
To make things more interesting I added an unlikely light pole in the middle of the canyon. I don't know, when I imagined this scene, in my mind the light pole was there. The sun on the right corner is not really a sun, but something I thought would visually give more balance to the picture.
Again, realistic style is *really* not my strong and it took me three days to create this picture, plus 15 hours of rendering time. I am not quite happy with the final result - this is not Anime, but at least Yuki was born in Japan.
Thanks for coming by!

Me too, I am now living in a place where it rains 300 days a year, but at least I now have a real beach to go to.

That looks more like a sun rise, when the sun goes down in AZ (at lest the part I know of) all the clouds and some of the sky turn pink, even the jet-trails go pink... Happy breat cancer awareness month! (Again.)

I see what you mean. This is an older work, and nowadays I would most likely better match the time with the colors. I have practiced many times with night scenes ever since. ^^

Well who am I to advice a 2D artist when I can't even draw stick figures? LOL But I can tell you my personal opinion as a graphic artist (instead of advice). What caught my eye about your drawing was the use of proportions exaggeration when drawing both male and female characters. When done right, this is something that can make your artwork stand out of the crowd. On the other side, feminine hands could have a more soft touch on both the style and posing. Posing hands is something that tells a lot about the artist and their characters, and should never be underestimated. I think the eyes and the hands are 2 of the things people look first on a character, and it's probably where I spend most of the time (besides body language). ^^

All of the models I use are meant for my main tool - Poser. A few of the models I created myself, some I converted from other programs, some ship with Poser itself and others were purchased from 3rd party content providers. Not sure if this was what you asked. ^^

The official Poser site is here --> [link] roduct_full&sku
SRC70DEMR but you can also opt for the freeware competition program called DAZ Studio. I am affiliated with DAZ3D, so if you go to my webpage (link below at my sig) and click at their banner (main page bottom) to go their site, you will be helping me to support my web site.
Poser 7 costs about $250 and DAZ Studio is freeware. Of course there are advantages and disadvantages from using freeware, where the main one might be that it ships with now 3D models for you to get started with. That's actually where DAZ makes their money from.
Ask me if you have questions. I can help you get started if you need help. Poser was originally created to help 2D artists by providing a fully featured human figure (male and female) that can be used as references for posing, perspective and shading. ^^

Poser always had a Mac version, but I don't know about DAZ Studio because I don't use it. The DAZ Studio freebie only came up 10 years after I was already using Poser, and it lacks all of the sophisticated features you get from Poser. With time, some of those features have been added as 3rd party plugins, but you will have to pay for each one separately, which is again where "cheap" comes expensive. LOL

I lived in Maricopa county (Tempe, close to the Arizona Mills mall) for half a decade before I moved to here. It basically never rains over there and the air gets too hot and dusty most of the time. I think Yavapai is a little better because the temperatures are not so drastic and we have some rain around the year and snow in the winter. ^^

i think Tempe gets more rain than Litchfield and that area does...
my grandparents live around the Phoenix area and stuff and they get a lot more rain than we do..
hmm... i think i'd die in Yavapai...
I think it's cold here! XD
I've been up to Flagstaff and Sedona a couple times during the summer and complained that it was cold, so i'm sure it's a lot colder in the winter! XD

Sedona and Flagstaff are colder than here. After all Flagstaff is a sky station at the top of a high mountain! Anyway, anybody coming from Phoenix will think it's too cold over here because of the altitude and low pressure. ^^

There are some new A/Cs and fridges that are more energy efficient nowadays.
The government should be giving incentives for people to buy them, mostly and because they are still very expensive.
But when we consider we barely have enough energy for the entire state during summer, this would save us so much trouble.
California often goes through blackouts and energy saving periods every year.
I hope we don't get to point that here in Arizona...

Oh yeah, if Californians keep coming to Arizona at this rate, Arnold might end up alone over there! LOL But seriously, nearly a third of this small town where I live is made of people who run away from California's absurd cost of leaving expenses. And now prices here are also going up all the time. It's like Arizona is going to become California if things keep going like this.

Well, both Mexicans and Californians are our neighbors, and both are coming here to run away from similar things. Mexicans run away from social injustice, while Californians run away from absurd living costs. But the guys from California are causing significant increase on living expenses here in Arizona. That together with the absurd gas prices that came with the Bush administration. I wonder if life will ever come back to the way it was?

There is also a chance Bush will be impeached...

prettypixie4949 In reply to ken1171 [2007-01-03 17:51:04 +0000 UTC]
idk if it's so much the administration's fault
i think it's really more the people's
Now in this country no one is allowed to offend anyone, and if you do people will raise hell
we could easily end the war over seas if we just nuke them (we proved that w/ Hiroshima)
but we can't do that because it's immoral and innocent lives will be lost, even tho innocent lives are already being lost
It seems like ever since WWII America just hasn't wanted to win wars anymore...

ken1171 In reply to prettypixie4949 [2007-01-04 05:35:25 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps that would be an understatement. Since WWII we have started more wars against other countries than *any* other nation in this planet. War against Vietnam, then against Cambodia, then against Korea, then against Panama, then against Iraq (Desert Storm), then against Afganistan, then against Iraq again (preemtively and against the UN resolution). This last one didn't finish yet (3,000 Americans dead so far) and Iran and North Korea are already threathning us with nuclear weapons. I think we have more American troops in Japan than we have in Iraq, and if North Korea attacks Japan, it will be a direct declaration of war against us.
Come to think of it, we are the only country I know of that ever used chemical and nuclear weapons in war in the history of humanity. We used "mustard gas" against Vietnam and 2 atomic bombs against Japan (after they had already lost the war in the Pacific). If we look back in history, we accused Iraq of threatning us with weapons of mass destruction and chemical/biological weapons, but in the end WE are the only ones who ever used such things in the past. After a close inspection, Iraq really didn't have any of that...
Considering all the facts, I think we DO like wars, for we started *many* ever since WWII and there seems to be more ahead.
π: 0 β©: 1
prettypixie4949 In reply to ken1171 [2007-01-04 23:59:22 +0000 UTC]
yeah, we have started a lot of wars!
and a lot of them we really didn't even win!
I really wonder where this war is gonna go from here
cuz even if Bush isn't impeached, there's like no chance for a Republican to be elected into office
and there's no way that w/ w/e plan Bush has in his head that it's gonna be carried out within what's left of his term
Didn't he already say we won this war at one point???
anyways, i wonder what the Democrats are gonna do w/ the troops and everything, just pull em out?
Cuz will that end up putting America in a treatened position or what??
idk about N Korea, that Kim Jong Il guy (or however you spell it, lol) is a complete psycho...
i think i'm more worried about China... lol

I was watching the debates about this administration, and many political analysts agreed that Bush may had manipulated the intelligence to start this war with Iraq because it was something his father tried in the past but failed. If he will ever be impeached, it will be because of that. But that was not all - he demonstrated extreme incompetence in dealing with the war with no precedence in American history. According to analysts, Bush seems to have lost confidence in his capability to run this country ever since the Katrina incident, where he simply didn't move a finger to help the people. He let thousands die in New Orleans for innaction and 3,000 more in Iraq for what is now called as "strategic incompetency". Last year less than 40% of the American people still believed on him, and now even less. We still have 2 more years ahead with him, and I am not sure where we are heading to. Talk about being unpopular...

lol, yeah, very unpopular....

I still can't believe that they're trying to rebuild New Orleans...
It's just going to happen again. The way that the city is set up, it was bound to happen anyways...
π: 0 β©: 1
ken1171 In reply to prettypixie4949 [2007-01-08 18:48:52 +0000 UTC]
According to specialists, what happened in New Orleans was the result of negligence. Years before it happened, people wrote books and even a movie about the flood. In other words, that tragedy could have been prevented, but the administration decided not to do anything about it (and hope for the best).
But New Orleans is not the only place where things like this are happening all the time. We have tornadoes every year, going from Texas all the way to Tennessee. We have hurricanes wiping out the entire neighborhoods in Florida every year. We have earthquakes causing quite some death and destruction from L.A. all the way to San Francisco in California. And what is people doing all of this places? Rebuilding and waiting for the next one!
π: 0 β©: 1
prettypixie4949 In reply to ken1171 [2007-01-11 01:22:43 +0000 UTC]
Well, the thing about New Orleans is that the city is shaped like a "bowl"
So when hurricanes do happen and tear up the place, there isn't a place for it all to go
So it's just stagnant water full of dead animals and people, sewer water, all that nasty stuff
They're rebuilding the levies, but they'll never be able to get them strong enough to hold it all back... or else it'll just overflow
New Orleans is just a death trap really
I'm not sure if those other places have geographical factors that play into their natural disasters, but i know that New Orleans has that problem...
