Description
~Dawn and Vicky~This is Dawn (left) and Vicky (right) side-by-side in the same pose, same outfit, same hair, and same textures. At the moment Vicky has TONS more morphs to play with than Dawn, so this may not be enough to compare them, but it's a start. ^^
Figures are Dawn and Vicky4. Hope you like it and thanks for coming by!

Wow.Β I hadn't played with that type of head over arm pose, but Dawn is showing a much more realistic lack of space between her head and arm.Β Vicky is built like a gorilla, something my husband could never stop himself from commenting on if I had her up on my screen in T pose.

Well observed - V4's arms seem unnatural in this pose, where the elbow should never go that high in this pose. For the sake of fairness, no correction morphs were used here, and that shows more on Vicky than it does in Dawn. V4's inner elbow shows the typical PVC pipe-like bending that comes from old-school Mil4 rigging, and her facial expression adds too much nose distortion that a real face would not be able to perform. Dawn's expressions, though few at the moment, are more natural looking and believable.
Although V4 has always been my favorite figure, she's starting to show signs of obsolesce when put side by side with a modern, fully weight mapped figure such as Dawn. When her morphs++ come out, I imagine Dawn will become an awesome base to work with. ^_____^

Dawn's arms look more real in size, if I compare her left ones and mine. Were you using Perfect Morphs with Vicky?
Splendid picture, by the way, very nice

It seems to me that Vicky's arms are too long to be accurate, and the PVC pipe-like elbow bends clearly show how far behind her rigging really is. Here Vicky is using her default Morphs++, no bend corrections were using in either figures. Dawn still lacks more elaborate body morphs, so Vicky has the advantage here, but not by far as you can see. ^^

Dawn's breast, by default, aren't much better than Vicky, indeed she lacks a lot of morphs, but despite her face I found that Dawn is far more human-like (understand: pleasant) whereas Vicky looks more than a theoretical top-model, even if she is far from nowadays skeletons-looking ones.

Indeed, Dawn still lacks head morphs, making her expressions quite limited. I wish HiveWire3D would add more to that instead of making her morph into monsters. Not to mention there is no Anime stylized version to play with. I am pretty sure all those things will come in time.

What I've seen till now, concerning new morphs for Dawn:, it is starting to resemble a little too much as (if I'm not wrong with the translation) the story of Tom Thumb: one or two interesting morph at a time, 4 to 6$ each. The day where Dawn is as complete as Vic4 + Morphs++ + Creatures + muscles, Dawn's price will be twice or thrice as high as Vic4 ultra-complete, at least that's my feeling these days
For example: I have bought the texture converter: an almost 25$ programs that has an awful interface compared to the free EZSkin. I have to study the way to use it because it's not 100%Β intuitive.
I don't mean to be negative at all but the wait for a better Vicky4 has been so long.

ken1171 In reply to Phyl-CGI [2013-10-01 23:08:59 +0000 UTC]
I have also paid $25 for the Texture Transformer, and I think it seriously lacks the ability to BATCH CONVERT makeup sets and eye textures. But I see this in a different angle - the price is fine considering how often I have been using it and how well it has worked in all cases. Also consider they are offering all new conversion expansions for free, which was never the case with other programs like this.
I would be happy enough with Morphs++ and some sort of Anime stylized set. I bought the Muscles set for V4 but after all these years I now realize I have never (ever!) used them. When I look at the quality of the new morphs for Genesis and Genesis2, I suspect that HW3D might be understaffed to take the job, because the quality doesn't look comparable. Frankly, I am not impressed, but since Dawn is my only option, I guess I can't complain...

I've been impressed with the amount of content that's come out in the mere 2 months Dawn has been on the market. Also with the quality of the vendors working on them. Admittedly some less talented artists are jumping in while there is little to choose from but the more detail oriented ones may just want to massage their products more.Β I'm pleased as well to see many talented artists (such as yourself) giving her a work out which creates more visibility and hopefully sales leading to more product.
HiveWire3d is certain to have less staff and resources than an established entity like Daz but they were smart enough to create partnerships with top vendors and retail sites. I'm sure Dawn has more content already than many (popular) 3rd party figures that have been out for years. I also heard through the grapevine that Capsces may have a morph package coming out and and I really look forward to that. I'm willing to wait for Dawn++ morphs until the product is well polished, hopefully soon.Β

I have talked to Steve Kondris from HiveWire 3D recently, and he told me they are working right now on expression morphs for Dawn, as well as body morphs. Dawn is seriously lacking on expressions at the moment, but I am happy to see HW committed to fixing that as soon as possible. This could as well be the Morphs++ we have been waiting for.
In the meanwhile, yesterday I have submitted my Classic Bunny Suit to HW's store, and today they notified me it is being reviewed by their QA. Soon enough it will be available for all, and I already started to create a new set of western boots for Dawn - see preview on my last deviation. ^^

Mec4d has an interesting morph set on her website. It's kinda unique in that it has some expression morphs I've not seen before. Also it has morphs to move the lips (not mouth) left, right, up, and down. This is also something I've not seen. Plus it allows movement of the top and/or bottom teeth forward and back. Along with Dawn's articulating jaw and HW3D's upcoming morphs I'm predicting that Dawn will have a greater range of expression than we've ever seen before.

ken1171 In reply to falsedelic [2013-10-10 22:15:45 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps lip movement can be done with weight mapped magnets in Poser itself, but I like the idea of being able to move the teeth around, which is something we were used to do with V4. I find that mandatory when morphs often move the position of the mouth, while leaving the teeth out of place.
For the time being, Dawn is been the most promising figure since V4. I could go a long way with just a few body morphs we have so far, but we desperately need the Morphs++ and more expressions to really compete in the market. Meanwhile, DS users keep claiming they don't need Dawn, which is understandable, but it doesn't encourage me to create any Dawn contents for them - since they are already telling me they don't need it. HiveWire3D is having a hard time understanding that, since most of them came from DAZ3D and they want to support Dawn in that platform as well.

If you look at the product information, it claims all future figure support will be offered for FREE to anyone who bought the program. ALL other programs I have seen before would never give that away for free as far as I could remember. Therefore I think it's a good deal.Β

I have so far been able to convert everything I wanted using the Fitting Room, which can handle any figure and also transfers all the figure morphs into the outfits. Of course, the Fitting Room will not do well if the outfit has geometry bulging out of the the outfit, since everything will be squished against the body. More recently I have found ways to minimize this using magnets. ^^
