~Neko Challenge~This is my entry for 's contest about Anthro characters, so I made a catgirl version of my Reiko character. I never entered a pic contest before, so I am not sure of how things work. Anyway, this is what I came up with. ^^

This is really nice. I love the texture of the skin and basically the pic overall.
I feel that the only thing letting this down is the tail. It seems kinda detatched IMO. Like its too far back from the character. Other than that, great work!

Hmm, that's interesting. Maybe you've got that impression because I removed all shadows from the scene to avoid making it look heavy and creepy (Anime always has bright colors). Shadows are often used a visual cues for dimension and distance. ^^

I see you chose not to go with the standard catgirl pose. I like the little details like the cord tied in a bow on the choker and the lacy fringe on the ends of the sholder part of the top.
I am not sure if you ment it that way but the sword is very... luminesent. It looks like it is a well polished blade or it is some how producing its own light. Both are cool.
The background is interesting in that it seems as if the water is bleeding over and soaking the white paper. If you could do that effect to the blade of the sword it will give it a hamon line and make it more real. Thats just my opinion. Over all the atmosphere is great and the the catgirlness of it is outstanding. I like the piece and will add it to my favs.

Wow, thanks - you really pay attention to the small details! ^^ The sword is nearly the size of the daikatana used by Sasaki Kojiro, the legenday samurai who was Miyamoto Musashi's biggest rival. That's unusual sword that was originally used to fight against horse mounted warriors but was retired later on because it was too hard to wield and could not go against spears. The sword here is indeed textured, but the angle the lights are reflecting on the blade make it look luminesent and you can't see the details. ^^

Ah. Musashi is one of my fav historical figures. My JN co-worker was suprised when I told him that I have read The Five Rings.
I'd like to see the sword without the light on it. I have a large collection of swords. Its a hobby of mine. Maybe thats why I am always broke. lol.
