When I tell people I'm graduating, I feel like they only want to talk about three things and then judge me for them.Related content

You're most certainly not alone on this one. Rushing into marriage, pursuing a career you won't like, and being who you are might get you some weird looks, but it's your life.
(The subject's facial expression also makes me laugh.)
Also, congratulations on... having graduated two years ago, by the look of things.
Here, have some encouraging music:

I've certain relatives who really wish I would do something they would consider to constitute success, but all I want is to write stuff. May not make huge amounts of money, but I love it. It's also nice to know I'm not alone.
I'm also a bit of a game music addict.

Pfff, success is just getting to do what you want to do and being able to provide for yourself at the same time. If you can do both, whether or not they're through the same means, I think that's successful enough.Β

Hehheh, if only society were so rational in its judgment. That's more-or-less the sort of success for which I'm aiming. If I become well-known or whatnot, that's wonderful, but if I don't, at least I'm happily creating.

Same to you β without what we make, we simply wouldn't be who we are. I have a feeling this is true for a lot of people. Thankfully, I think we're probably near to breaking with old ideas of success, though society will always have a long way to go about some things. That was probably more philosophical than what was called for, but I overanalyse things.
So what is it that makes you tick the most strongly?

Haha, lots of stuff I suppose. I like to exceed expectations and I've had alot of people tell me I won't amount to much as an artist throughout my life - teachers, girlfriends, parents, you name it. There's alot of satisfaction in proving people that they were wrong about you haha.Β

It isn't for no reason that the proverb goes success is the best revenge, though happiness regardless of the expectations of others is a pretty close second.

You must wear your character! If they think it's childplay, act like it actually is. Then you can always let it slip in family reunions how you are so glad to earn your living without once breaking a sweat. My engineering friends are really frustrated about my "easy path".

I get paid by the government, but while I sit on my arse as a couch potato, I do take care of my very sick grandpa and mom. So, when people ask, I say 'I'm a caretaker'.

"Caretaker" still sounds like a more legit occupation to most people than "artist"

By the way, I'm sure you know you're *AWESOME*, and not being married, being an artist, and not having a 9-5 job is pretty bitchin.Β

Totally.. I feel like I'm wasting my time doing something unnecessary (do people REALLY need me making sandwiches??) rather than doing what I love, but that's how it is for artists like us XP
Also, congrats on graduating! It's really a feat!
(I'm graduating too in a week and a half)

I'd love to have a job where I can put my creativity to the test, but a job only drains it of its fun, and in turn, my motivation to produce great arts

Being an artist isn't a bad thing.
Creativity is something, most people lost when they grew up.

Groudan383 In reply to KendallHaleArt [2014-04-17 03:27:34 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but they do save lives lol. Anywho, screw those people who judge you. Your a really great and funny artist! You might not be saving lives or making millions on wallstreet, but not many people can take their thoughts and imagination and make it a reality like you can
