I help the "suspect" up from the undignified position she had somehow gotten herself into. I have to call Beth a "suspect" for now even though I caught her red-handed. Something to do with presumption of innocence until she gets convicted. Of course, I remind her "crime doesn't pay" with a straight face. I love doing that.

Beth groans, more from the corny line than from the love tap she took earlier. Yeah, love tap is just a figure of speech. Nothing more. Move along, nothing to see here.

We make our way over to my squad car; gently though since all the fight has gone out of her. The squad car has been shot up a bit but I'm able to use my mobile device to activate the sound system, which fortunately still works.

Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?

"Oops, wrong track!" I position Beth on the hood of the patrol car and switch songs.

Breakin' rocks in the hot sun

"Okay, I get it, copper. You won. Why can't you just arrest me? Why do you have to rub it in? It's cruel and unusual punishment!"

"You know the Eighth Ammendment, Beth? Didn't think you could count higher than five!"

I bend her over the hood of the patrol car. Yes, that's right. It's standard procedure so no jokes, please. I secure one of her arms and reach for my handcuffs as I read her her rights.

Beth seems to know the drill by heart and as she gives me her other arm she spins a long yarn about how I should just let her go because she needed to rob that bank to save her gramma's orphanage from being foreclosed by those evil money lenders and how it's all for the children and peace on Earth and blah blah blah. Then she adds "Besides, those bracelets don't go with my other accessories."

Click! Click! I cuff her and begin patting her down. "I disagree, Beth." She starts grumbling about my poor fashion sense and how I don't know what I'm talking about but she's wrong. She does look really good in handcuffs! What? Who doesn't like seeing a criminal being put away?
