depends on the kind of clay you want to use. Bentonite, like this can be found at most farm supply stores.

Yes, I believe its the powdered bentonite in bags

Its relatively cheap, but the amount needed depends on how big the pit is, and how thick you want it to be. Easy to work with though

it does dry up It depends on hot wet initially then how well it mixed and how hot it is where you are. Arkansas generally needs clay added over summer, and sometimes water if doesnt rain
