Actually the image is of an ecological battlefield of man vs nature. Man won. For hundreds of years some advocated for a shortcut canal across the middle of Florida. By the time construction was finally approved, the canal wasn’t needed. Not a problem, people with influence who were going to make money from the project got their way. Eventually the US government admitted the project was a mistake and stopped construction. But by then the damage was done, including the flooding of a river valley. These trees were once part of an important forest ecosystem.
