Description

Goofing around on a pre-wedding tour of the location. I’ve done a few weddings.  It’s really the only time I made any money with photography. I worked hard, invested in good equipment (especially lighting) and studied many “how to” books.  However, looking back I think my focus was misplaced.  Instead of working to get results like in the books, I should have been more focused on what was more important to the couple, particularly the bride.  Certainly both are important and my clients were pleased with the results.  One of the brides came to another wedding that I was shooting. She asked to borrow my back-up camera for some candids.  I looked at the results which didn’t have perfect lighting, but had a deeper emotional connection than many of my photos.  She went on to start a very successful wedding photography business.  Actually, I think women wedding photographers “get it” as they understand the bride's thinking and feelings better.  As for me, I kept getting more lighting equipment and eventually got a double hernia hauling it around.  That kind of ended my wedding photography and I went back to my hobby nature photography.
