Description
And now for something completely different.I've been doing these guys for about ten years now, on and off. Occasionally finding suitable rocks and then doodling these guys out. Giving most of them away and selling the rest.
These four are the most recent ones I've done. Upper left to right, clockwise: Huffus, Reginald, Dolphus, & Bandlestaff.

What a great idea! :>
What do you use to draw these guys onto the rocks? Chalk or pencil? And, should I be right with my guess, how d'you fixate them to the surface?

Thank you!
All prismacolor pencils and a little acrylic paint for the highlights. I then spray them with a clear fixative.

These are very neat. They would make excellent artistic paperweights. I especially like the top two.

Those are fantastic man! I had to look at them a couple of times before realizing- despite what you said about them- that they were drawn on and not carved!!!!!!!

No prob! I used to use colored pencils a lot, but I was so hard on them I'd end up with hand cramps.

Ah bummer. Yeah my father just mailed me some OLD sculptures I did back in the day. They've long since dried up and fallen apart. Basically it looked like he mailed me a big box of multi colored rocks. Umm... thanks Pop.

These are really neat! I thought they might be sculptures when I saw the thumbnail, the chiaroscuro is pretty effective. These fellows have a lot of character, too. Any pits in the rocks just seem to add to that.
I used to paint on rocks back in high school; I had a huge one from the beach in Narragansett that was painted as an owl and used as an excellent door stop and toe murderer.

Haha! "Toe murderer"! Awesome.
Yeah, luckily mine are relatively small (4"-10") so no toe homicide here. They all reside safely in various potted plants for now. My mother actually is always picking up rocks here and there for me to "try out". She's gotten a hold of some really big ones lately and I'm kind of intimidated because I've always worked really small. They look good in my flower beds until then I suppose.
