Absinthe is probably the most praised liquor in art; it was extremely popular among the fine folk of the French bohemian scene in the late-19th-early-20th century, Van-Gogh, Manet, Toulouse-Lautrec etc.It is said to have a very "mind-opening" effect, and many paintings of the "green muse"/"green fairy"/"absinthe fairy" were inspired by absinthe.
Personally I never got any inspiration from absinthe, only a terrible headache and the most sickening taste in my mouth(That I had to endure twice, as it returned upon vomiting).
So The Absinthe fairy is a lie, people. She's a shameless, deceptive skank.
Or maybe I should have been born French.

I don't like its taste either. The only way I can stomach it is Death in the Afternoon, a cocktail Hemingway supposedly invented: Pour some absinthe in a champagne glass, about half a centimetre to a centimetre, and fill up with champagne until it turns opaque.

True story: you can go permanently blind from ingesting too much absinthe.
Blame the wormwood or the high alcohol level, but from this image we now know it's what happens when you look at the fairy too closely.

Out of the very few I've tried, it's still my drug of choice; alcohol and sugar. But definitely not absinthe
