Description
So, I recently broke down and purchased a pottery wheel. Haven't thrown in almost 8 years, so it took awhile to get the hang of it. Here is my first creation, a tentacle pitcher! I call it, a cephalopitcher. What color(s) should it be!?

Nice nice nice the tentacle handle is genius. Does it work well as a handle or is it hard to hold?

It should be either dark blue/purple or light aqua with blue. Maybe you could even add gloss at the end of the tentacle to make it appear shiny and clean while taking steps to make the top look a little muddy.

Very creative thinking. Did you extrude the handle or roll it out? How did you create the "suckers" on the tentacle?

I rolled it out, then made each sucker by hand... smooshing little balls of clay one at a time.

So awesome~!
My suggestions for glaze are
A.something more natural (shades of green, green-blue, green-yellow or green-red)
b. crazy acid colours to make the complement the tentacle and weirdness of it more. Like hot pink with vioket/purple or any combo with neon shades
Do you own a klin at your place too? I've recently been hooked by some throwing vids on youtube and was researching online; real deal potter's equipment is definately expensive O-o not a hobby one can just get into on their own, I guess it's best to try and go to a class first... I've always wanted to try throwing, even if just once in my life, to see how it feels I hope I will get the opportunity some day
long post is long, blargh

I do have a kiln, I picked it up on craiglist from a glass blower! it's ancient but it'll bake some clay.
and you read my mind on glaze colors! Now to decide which way to go on them... a or b...

So glad! Btw, are you keeping the klin indoors or in some sort of garage? I currently keep a small electric oven for crafts on my bedroom floor
, but I imagine a klin has to be used with much more precaution? Given those high tempratures? Could it blow up or catch on fire if unattended?

We keep it in a garage. It can reach temperatures over 2000 degrees F. (I singed an eyebrow off peeking into a peephole once.)
It can't blow up, but I've had pieces I was firing blow up inside the kiln. Makes a very very very very huge mess. haha

D: sounds dangerous. I've heard that sculptures can blow up if you don't hallow them out, right ? It has something to do with surface pressure or clay shrinking? (I dunno)
Hope your brow grew back ^_^

green wash maybe some lighter white/green for the suckers then a clear seal for the wet look perhaps...beautiful work..love the humor in the piece...would love to see some smaller tentaculars making their way over the side and down the pitcher surface...pitcher shape also beautiful..hope it fires well..
