I'll comment here since I am not sure about Squiby dying on me while typing, so.. XD

The design for both is great and the baby stage is adorable. <3
I think your main problem is drawing wings
(I can't draw them either lol).
But the baby probably couldn't fly correctly..
You have to assume that the wings can be bend down and up,
like flapping.
The lines around the shoulder seem to be very stiff -
it looks like the poor thing couldn't even flap them up and down.
Same for the big dragon. I think they're just missing a few bones or a muscle, like a shoulder, so they can move wings like arms.

As for the adult form wings -
where does the net starts?
What I mean is, why does the wing starts in the middle of nowhere?
The skin or whatever it is, should be connected to the body,
like wings of birds are.
Otherwise it wouldn't be able to fly.

Other than that, both stages are fine concerning pose.

As for the color -
it looks like you covered them with some kind of texture -
which isn't bad, but the dragon get random dark spots,
which doesn't help to point out muscles or covered bodyparts.
Maybe you could find a scale texture? It would probably look better.

As for simple shading, you could always darken the bodyparts in the back.
It helps to create a bit of perspective.
Not much, but it looks better than completely flat, if you know what I mean. XD

I like the face of the adult dragon -
the eye glow and the pattern is pretty decent.
I'd probably color the teeth white, too. It looks like you forgot about them.. XD

Other than that, it's a great Squiby.
It just needs a bit of tweeking there and here
and it should be fine.

Nether drakes have pretty funky wings and crystalline teeth (the same color as their head-spike). Maybe I should have altered the wing structure from the reference to make it make more sense. (I can provide a picture of the original creature straight from the game if you're curious.)

I painted the pattern on manually with a splotchy brush. I've had huge issues trying to make a sensible system to understanding shading, but I'll try the suggestion offered.

Nether drakes have a oddly-smooth skin instead of scaly, looking kinda like a shark's. But, I'm interested in the idea of textures. Where do you find a scale texture, and is it like a brush? How do you use it?

Thanks for all your critique! I'll try incorporating your suggestions into future projects.

Ah, I see.
Well, like I said concerning shading, it would be good to darken these bodyparts, which are more "far away" from you.
For example the back leg, the wing pointing away from the viewer and maybe a bit of the tail to create an illusion of depth.

Ah, okay. Well, I am pretty sure there are textures for that like that too.
Textures can be on top of your layers (either soft light or overlay mode) and create the feeling of a pattern,
or simply a texture.
I, for myself, always use some kind of paper texture.
You can see it here, for example:

Notice the grey area? They kind of have a paper texture. The second one is watercolor.
It doesn't make your images look flat -
or when you're looking for scales or shark skin, I am pretty sure you can find something useful.

Try reading this short guide:

To find a sharky texture, you simply can search on DA. Just tag "texture shark" or "texture scales" and you should find something useful.

And then it's up to you to use it -
what programm do you use?
You can either save it as a texture or save the image and copy + paste it on the top layer, switch the mode to overlay and maybe change the color/hue/light of the texture, so that your original colors aren't lost.

Let me know in case you need any further help.
