Bleach has backgrounds, but lately everything is taking place in the sky, in black and white...hence the white...you see where I'm going with this?

Joking of course. He obviously did rip Bleach off.
However, all other issues aside, the fact that the lack of background makes sense in the context of the story, it doesn't change the fact that the battles have become rather monotonous, partially because the backgrounds are usually plain white with maybe a few clouds. It's unpleasant. And the fact that pretty much nothing happens story-wise each week doesn't help much either.

The best thing about drawing backgrounds for Nick Simmons is you get the same pagerates, but nobody really cares if you copy a building from referrence. You also get a lot of breaks too.

Kind of makes you feel sorry for the assistant artists and the colorist doesn't it? Provided that they were unaware of the tracery.

Yep, yep it did. He should've been more cautious when a guy collaborates with him because he can't draw his own backgrounds, but people don't think too much when money's on the line.
