Imma play devil's advocate to the message here and say that most people's days are either bad or mundane. And when they are bad most everyone wants to talk about it and wants someone else to listen. Everyones a little bit douche.

It's also kinda rude to tie someone's time up and vent about your day.
Unless someone's got a vested interest in how your day went down and why you're sad, the best way to talk about a shitty day is to get some distance from it, and try to spin it into something funny, succinct, and entertaining that you can share with a friend. That way they can at least laugh along and participate.
Otherwise, it's just thirty minutes of trying to sympathize as someone goes down a list of grievances.
