And yes, that's a reference to "Dare to be Stupid" by "Weird Al" Yankovic (which I request you listen to before you assume I'm trying to insult a fictional cartoon character with a backstory fans just kinda made up).

I think she's funny because she's a background character and people can play "Spot the Derpy" when they watch the show. The whole fanon backstory she's been given is way too serious for me... she's more likeable when she says random stuff or just pops up cross-eyed, IMO.
