I actually figured he and Mario's last name was "Nintendo" because Mario's Super Smash trophy (I think the Melee one) called him "Mr. Nintendo". Though that probably wasn't meant to be literal.

Everyone keeps referencing the movie for his last name. Please stop it. If you want to take the logic of that movie into canon, then Luigi is also Mario's Colombian adopted son and the princess Daisey (before daisy was invented so at the time, it was Princess Toadstool because this was also before they named her Peach) is his love interest.
