Panel 2 is the most painfully accurate thing I have ever seen.

"Grimdark reboot" "sexy sex" "disney thing" hahahah oh man.
Well I feel a little less bad about not making it to cc.

This made me laugh, especially the last panel.
There's never anything like that where I live though (or I'm really uninformed)

Oh Never been to a comic con myself sadly, and even in spite of this I would still like to try one

Yeah, smaller cons are great. But SDCC is the biggest convention in the world, and that's... problematic.

SDCCI has gotten so movie and television intensive as so many of the base IPs that a lot of the big movies and television programs are coming from comics. Comics come in with a built in fan base that guarantee the studios a certain amount of product. And it's not like the comic industry isn't there, I can't tell you how many great artist are still there, if you concentrate your time away from the glitz and glamour of the big hollywood studios. I spent hours talking to artist who I had appreciated and didn't know it was them, though they were just feet away from me, until I bothered to look.
Suggestion, visit artist alley, visit small press, there are nuggets of gold there, and surprisingly not all that crowded.
SDCCI is so big that there is something for everyone, from the casual television fan, to the die-hard must read every graphic novel out there.
Don't fear the size, embrace it, learn to move with the currents of humanity, find safety with the people who share your inner fan. Talk to strangers, make them friends.

That's quite a different beast from a comicon, from what I gather.

Kind of. It's still a comics convention.

This isn't true of EVERY comic convention (at least, I hope not), but it's definitely true of the San Diego Comic Con.
