This is pretty much why I stopped going to SDCC. You end up paying a TON of money just to be crammed into the convention center like a sardine and surrounded by ads for movies and TV shows that mostly have nothing to do with nerd culture.

Also, the sexual harassment against female cos-players that goes on is just awful. I got accosted by multiple creepers last time I went. And a friend of mine got chased down the street and called a "slut" when she went to the most recent SDCC by some self-described YouTube "celebrity" named Kevin Brueck (he claimed to be doing a documentary about cosplayers. We're hoping we can spread the word and get him banned from any and all future cons)

Yeah I say that guy and gave him a serving on his video in the comment section,
"From what I've heard about youΒ Kevin Brueck, is that you chased a poor girl down the street and called her a "slut" for cosplaying as her favourite character. If a guy dressed in somewhat revealing clothes, no one really gives a crap but a woman does it and you start cussing her out? That is low. You didn't even have the decency to tell them it was a prank, involving calling them "sluts" just to make yourself look like the big man.

Sure, I get it's a joke but seriously, there are some cosplayers who are young, shy and dressing up as their favourite characters to try and build up their confidence and enjoy themselves with friends, then you don't even ask them if they're okay with you mocking them. Do you realise how much you destroyed that poor girl and several others?Β

Seriously, next time,Β ask first if they're okay with it before cussing them out on YouTubesome people are easy hurt by this, this is just sexual harassment and demeaning.ο»Ώ"

People like that seriously p*ss me off.

I sincerely appreciate you spreading the word about what happened.

I have a more detailed write up about that incident in my DA journal (including a first hand account from a friend who was actually there). My sister called him out for harassing her cosplayer friend and Brueck tried to intimidate her by screaming in her face. That man is vile and deserves to be black listed from any and all future conventions

Can you send me a link with all the details so I can try to contact the comic con people to ban him?

Comic Con Skanks.

Bruecks video is called Comic Con Skanks.

But Crafty already commented there.

And the usual Internet stuff happens.

This is why I prefer the smaller conventions. SDCC seems way too big for me. The biggest con I've been to is Emerald City in Seattle and that was too much for me and I was exhausted after one day. I'll stick to the local Spokane consΒ

You forgot "Charge people for everything except breathing." Only because they haven't figured out how to do that.
And bring in celebrities that you will never get anywhere near them or even actually see them.

Don't be afraid of people and just have fun!!

It's not about anyone being afraid of strangers, just about SDCC being overcrowded and not so much about comics anymore.

Though i would really like to go there too.

Hmm, am I just pessimistic, or does it seem this could be applied to a number of cons out there? I honestly wouldn't know, I've only ever been to one, and even though it was small, there certainly seemed to be a touch of this, even though you got to know the strangeness of the strangers there a little better.

Oops, faved in wrong folder. ^^'
