But, in all seriousness, the sphinxes need to calm down a tiny bit. People can hold opinions based on their knowledge. However, they do need to keep in mind how limited their knowledge is and be willing to adapt after learning more about the subject.

I really don't like when people try to uphold an opinion on something they don't know shit about. :/ This uber-vegan guy a couple years ago kept trying to convince me (a once animal science major taking classes on animal diets) that frozen broccoli had just as much or more protein than beef jerky did. If anything, he may have been thinking IRON, and not protein, but the fact he'd continue to act like I was the idiot was irritating to no end. I'd imagine if I tried to convince him now, he wouldn't admit to the error, some people are just far too prideful to get out of the fantasy world in their head.

Well if one knew nothing about a subject they wouldn't be able to have an opinion. To be fair it's more like they know little on the subject or at least not all of it.

You're way too optimistic. I was a tabletop RPG player in the hight of the moral panic in my country (mid 90s). I met a lot of people who held strong oppinions about us being agressive/satanic/etc. who knew nothing about the subject outside of "it exists". Maybe someone somewhere 3 or 4 steps down the rumor pyramid might heard (misunderstood) some somethingsΒ about the hobby but that didn't meant these people did. :/

Well they would have to know like what the word means that's all I'm saying. If you asked some one their opinion on yaoi but they have no idea what that is or if it's even a thing (never heard of it either)the first thing they'll do is either look it up or ask some one what it is.

The definition they have doesn't have to be right though.Β Which is basically knowing nothing. YMMV what is worse knowing literally nothing or knowing something minimal which is also wrong (knowing nothing, but thinking that you do). I generally think that a un/misinformed opinion is worse than a nonexisting one.

There is also the first rule of professionalism. "Never admit ignorance" That's literally presenting an opinion on stuff you don't know anything about to not come off as ignorant or present yourself smarter than you are, you wont fool people, who already know about the subject, but it's still an existing strategy. (Example: "Yaoi is yet another example of the decadence and decaying culture of Japan!" - only had to guess that it's from Japan. If can't be assed to do even that: "The popularity of yaoi in some circles really underlines the fall of morality in our beloved country! *deep-sad-sigh*" )
There are trolls too who do such thing deliberately (I know nothing of this, let's present an uninformed opinion just for shits and giggles).
And I'm not even touching the people who deliberately misinform others for one reason or another. :/
