Description Here's an update on my attempt at creating some custom Photo > Watercolor actions for Photoshop.

I'm curious for any feedback about the style and realism. The Watercolor action is close to being done, but the Sumi-e action is still being explored.

Glad you like it. If you want to get you can do so here . Unfortunately the sumi-e is not a part of the set... mainly because I couldn't get a consistent result that I was happy with. But it works great for get a nice watercolor effect on your photos. Have fun!

Uh.. well it would be too difficult to try and explain in a comment, and I don't have any sort of tutorial... so for now I don't have any way to show you, sorry.

this is one of the best watercolor effects i have seen in ps. very cool. i like the way some detail is preserved in the fur (hair?) between his eye and ear for example.
are you willing to share your action or give me a hint how you achieved it? great work!

Hi Frank.. first off, thanks a ton for your feedback. It's nice to have a perspective from artists that actually have great work and a good eye for things like this. I really appreciate the compliments... while I am confident that it has a unique look to other watercolor conversions, it's easy to not trust your own judgement after staring at your work for days.

As far as HOW I was able to achieve this look... it's really a combination of many effects that I explored over the last couple of weeks while trying to make the best possible version I could. I decided to scratch the Sumi-e one because I couldn't get anything I really liked... but instead, I've decided on 4 presets for the standard watercolor version (normal, b&w, vintage, and vibrant).

I intend to sell my watercolor actions on GraphicRiver and I should be uploading it in the next day or two. Pending they get approved, I'll reply back to your comment so you can go pick them up if you would like... I'm sure they only be a few bucks. Again, thanks for the feedback!
