It's very simple yet at the same time so expressive. I like this a lot.

My first association was with Alein and S. Weaver as a Ellen Replay.

I remember very well when a former drawing instructor set us some homework - he gave us one word - "nocturne". I did some research and came up with:
" Inspired by, or evocative of, the night; a moderately slow piece, usually for piano, of dreamy, contemplative character and song-like melody. "
The intensity of her eyes and the anxiety of her hand position makes for a compelling contrast with the rest of the quiet, muted nature of the picture. Were this music, it would be slowly rising from quiet introspective simplicity through increasingly strained, dreamlike word picture repetitions and flashes (eg, Phillip Glass, or Purcell) to a crescendo of something really obsessive - maybe music that suggests industrial erotic charcoal ... (eg, Massive Attack: Mezzanine).
You've not only a gift for the eye, you've a gift for the title. You must work at it - because this truly suggests "nocturne", albeit in a disturbing aspect of the word. I don't comment as often as I'd like, but now and then I find I simply must respond to something wonderful.
Thanks,
Russell

You are very welcome, and again, I thank you - you made the picture, and it called forth something elemental in me. Of course, I have a smattering of the lingo, the vocabulary, and also a little of the practise in offering constructive criticism in the language of visual artists...
For me, because I have been stunted these past years in my own artistic endeavours, I have to find people like you to feed my own hunger for art works that really matter.
And so I thank you once again. You renew my own certainty that I might once again draw, paint, photograph, sculpt, design...
Your pictures almost always pull a direct response from me. I don't usually reply - too many jam sandwiches can become cloying, after all - but sometimes, your stuff hits me on so many levels I simply have to respond. this was one of those times.
All my best,
Russell

This is just so sensual and feminine. It reminds me strongly of a John William Waterhouse model.
The combination of her eyes, hand, lips, nose, chin, all of which are half in shadow, half in light just .. I don't know, its just an amazing shot, so beautiful and expressional and graceful. I adore the simplicity, actually, I adore everything about it.

Nice, bold features. I like the grain and the light, but I wish the hot spots had a bit more texture.

Thank you....I had debated it in the printing (it's there) but I got more of the 'rush' on this one. But I'm gonna keep that in mind for another go.....
