Description Dancer/choreographer Naiomi Goldberg. We wanted something that was not just a standard dancer's portrait. Then I saw her stretching and I saw those feet, just covered in bruises and cracks.

When your little girl wants to be a ballet dancer...show her this...

The question is...Do you WANT to dance or do you NEED to dance - and what are you willing to sacrifice for it? Because, like for any artform, it will be demanded of you.

I want to. I'm sacraficing my Saturday afternoons and my Monday evenings lol xD
TBH it's only a hobbie. Doubt it will go into a profession in my life

Wow... it's kind of ironic how Ballet is so elegant and pretty and clean.. but then you see this and it sort of puts me off towards the whole thing. Underneath all that is this ugliness (no offense to the model, I'm speaking figuratively as well). It looks painful.

very meaningful to take shot of the feet of a dancer ..I used to have all those bruises on my knees.. really hard to be gracefull when it's hurting that much.. good work

I hate when people say ballet is for sissies.

I dare you, big tough boys, to dance on pointe.

When I was being made fun of for doing ballet, I brought a pair of bloody pointe shoes to school and showed them my foot. Not so girly now, is it?

Indeed. The irony of how brutal it is, is lost on most. Glad you found this image...

That's why I don't wear flip-flops....My cracks aren't that bad though. Very beautiful photo, shows more emotion than traditional dancer photos do. More down-to-earth or 'real' I guess. Very nice.

Is it wrong that I saw the picture, stared at my feet, already calloused to death, and thought it was beautiful and would not mind my feet evolving into that? It just shows the dedication of a dancer.

kallitechnis [2008-01-03 18:36:59 +0000 UTC]

Well, the hard skin is certainly problematic, but apart from that her feet don't look too ugly or nakered. There's nothing prominent about them, like bunions, hammer toes or corns which are a real problem.

Wow, I have to say this is amazing. I'm looking into starting point for ballet and I'm not too surprised what it can do to your feet. I don't think this will stop me though.

But amazing shot!

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful images I have ever seen, and probably the best involving the subject of dancing. I love the concept of how no matter how bruised and battered this woman becomes, she still prepares herself every day for her passion. Sure, her feet are an absolute mess, but what would YOU be willing to sacrifice to follow your dream? This is amazing. =]

Thank you so much for that....
Yeah, she was an amazing woman and perfectly comfortable with showing the cost of her art. In fact she was more into doing a shot like this than the hundreds of "pretty ballerina" shots she's had to do over the years. Thanks again....

now i feel so much this picture... maybe some day me feets will look like those
i'm just in my 2 year on pointe, i just love the light gives the pic the sence of
"lossing the day"
