Description
The Acropolis of Athens, Greece - Picture 03 of 05The Caryatids. Statues of young women clad in peplos. They supported the roof of the south porch of the Erechtheion (420 B.C.), and probably were the work of Alkamenes, a student of the great sculptor Pheidias.

One of the Caryatides (statues) was stolen years ago by the British. Itβs now at the British museum in London. The Greek government requested the return of the statue and other artifacts from the Acropolis and the Parthenonβ¦
