Description
Photoshop of the day - Standing In Between
It's a scary world out there sometimes, and there are so many things trying to get our (and our kid's) attention. We are not opposed to screen time, and we have several screens in our home that our kids are welcome to use. However, I wanted to create an image that shows a parent using the wisdom to sometimes stand in between the child and the screen. With the internet, tv, and social media, we have invited the entire world to come inside our homes and influence our children. We have to be discerning to know what our kids should and should not be seeing, and when to literally stand in the way of anything negative seeking an audience with our children

Gladly.
Firstly, the generational argument was just downright bizarre. Screams boomer? There was no explanation for that whatsoever, so I have nothing to add regarding that. This can easily apply to any generation. Maybe swapping the tv out for a phone will make this clearer.
The description was pretty clear about the piece. At no point did they imply that 'tv bad', as you put it. Rather I took away the concept of the dangers of excess. As explained, they have several screens in their home that the kids are welcome to use. They further explained that they wanted to create a piece that highlights a parent using their wisdom to step between the child and the screen. The reason? To protect their children from content that may not be safe for them. That notion applied to the internet and social media (the latter I can certainly agree with). Technology is a terrible substitute for a loving parent who cares about the development of their child.
In truth, I actually thought the male figure was a character from a show taking care of the child. Interesting commentary on the idea of using a tv/tablet/phone to occupy a child's mind. What it turned out to be, then, was not a far cry from what I mistakenly thought it was.
I don't believe the image is to be taken literally. Rather, I think it is intended as a metaphor.
In regards to you saying' what if the child wants to watch tv?' The thing is that there are a ton of things kids want to do but shouldn't. It is not a parent's job to facilitate every desire a child has. It is a parent's job to prepare the child as best as they can for adulthood by teaching them values, morality, the way to a decent and wholesome adult life, and if that sometimes means denying a child some screen time on tv, small price to pay. Of course the parents can bond with the child over watching tv. No reason why not, but again this isn't saying that. It is talking about safeguarding a young mind from things that might not be suitable.
I don't think you are foolish, regardless of what you might believe. If anything, I simply think you are misguided. Judging the comments, the general consensus is that this has a powerful and positive message that people appreciate. My advice would be to look at the other comments, consider what they are saying and analyse your own thoughts on it. Being self-critical is a strength, not a weakness, and you just might discover something you hadn't considered.
That, then, is my interpretation of this. I could be completely wrong in some people's eyes, and that is totally fine. If you disagree with me, fine. But your vague interpretation provides very little insight into your thought process, and so can too easily be viewed as ignorant or spiteful. I don't believe this is really the case for you, but there it is.
By the way, I am a millenial (born 1986)

I suppose I see your point. However, judging the picture as is without looking at the description, it’s hard to tell what’s so harmful about the TV. All I see is glowing. The way this picture looks makes it seem like the TV in general is bad. There’s no indication of any bad content, And I’ve seen other artworks like this that were obviously made by boomers to talk about how ‘phone bad’.

In terms of seeing it at first glance, I agree. There isn't anything immediately harmful, but that is always why I read the description. Without context this picture could have 100 different titles and many more different meanings. This could be called 'My friend in the box' and could be about recalling characters from old shows we used to enjoy watching as children. The whole message changes.
I have seen other artwork that are as you describe, and I agree with you again that they can be eye-rollingly obnoxious. However, many others take a more measured approach and speak more to the danger excess. Too much tv is bad. Too much of your phone is bad. Too much of anything is bad. I feel that in this case, this is more of a gentle suggestion, rather than a demand. I will say that you can't just assume they were made by boomers. There are plenty of people from across the generations who feel exactly the same way. I mean I agree with the message.

First of the equipment:
- TV Antenna
- Television Tube Model
- Dials on TV
- Mono Speaker
- wooden building blocks (although they start to be modern again for some reason)
-dark wooden flooring
Second - Nothing about:
- Internet
- Interactive Playtoys
- Religious indoctrination
- Video Games
- Mobile devices
The first shows the antiquity of the shown elements. The second shows the lack of things people use to make their kids quiet enough to ignore.

Wise message and beautiful image! Even adults should keep away from their monitors from time to time, just to "clean" their minds...

Not gonna lie, with no other context I assumed he was some kind of television-generated ghost.

I adore this piece! Not only is it so beautifully made, but the message of wise use of screens is one I deeply value. I’ve had first hand experience with the toxic effect that social media and the internet can have, and it’s wonderful to see the idea of standing against the influence that the internet and the world by proxy can bring.
