Description
My dumb scanner..... really darkened this.Anyways, this is yet another present, for one of my friends. She's really obsessed with Adventure Time (well, duh) I've watched it quite a few times, entertainment wise, it's pretty good, but it's artwork really struck a chord, reminded me of old cartoons. And it's just, really cute.
The background was supposed to be Lumpy Space... Not sure how successful that turned out.

I would like to congratulate you on your use of the coloring utensils in a creative and artistic way! This will no doubt be a great picture for your friend, and I would have been excited to get something like this myself! I do like how you incoporated both characters from Ooo and Aaa. However (I'm sorry I don't really like pointing out stuff like this), some characters in the background such as Flame Princess and Princess Bubblegum kind of look a little faded in the background and not entirely visible. They are more important characters that maybe should be a bit more up in front, I think. Other than that, awesome artwork!

Derwent Colorsoft Pencils. They're extremely soft and tips break easy, though, so they sort of work like pastels. But without all the dust and fixative.

ah, i like the sound of them! not such a fan of mess (including dust) these days... (tho i still use charcoal). so no fixative? no smearing?

They'll smear if you happen to be pressing really hard and accidentally brush over them hard, but, generally, smearing is very minimal, and if it happens, it's usually erasable, not like with pastels where if a tiny bit of your hand goes over a spot, it's all over the picture.
And nope, no fixative. Or, at least I've never used it, and I'm never had any problems that would make me think I'd need to use it.

pastels do seem unforgiving... (altho mistakes can actually improve a piece sometimes) i'll try those pencils sometime (when i can find them)

Actually, this wasn't made with pastels. (Although the material is very similar). I made it with Derwent Colorsoft pencils, and, like the name implies, they're really soft, and similar to a pastel. Although not as soft. But either way they're fun to use.
