Those gate-babies never fail to creep me out. X3This is FMA fanart which ended up being a mix of both Manga and Anime themes in the end. It takes some explaining, but it might contain one or two little spoilers below (mainly for the manga) so beware.
And just to take note - Alphonse has GOLDEN eyes in the MANGA, like his big brother - and I've always wanted to do him with them at some point. :3
I'm also not sure if those gate babies ever showed up in the manga (well...there's only a door, no 'gate' in the manga. Plus, I think there's only been the eye and the grabby-hands so...I think that was an anime-only theme...It's been a while since I re-read the current manga pages, since I've been waiting for chapter 55 for a long time now *hops from one foot to the other*). Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about the creepy babies. XP
Okay...what's actually supposed to be going on is Al's body is, well, on the other side of the door now...pretty much re-forming on that side - but it's taking place after his soul was ripped back to the side Ed is on again...so it's the body and mind, minus the soul. What happens to the body and mind after it's re-formed? unless you've read chapter 53 of the manga, you won't know (but man, do I weep for poor little Al. ;_; ).
So that's his limbs and such coming back (I love how Arakawa-san draws things breaking-down with the brick-like slabs). Plus gate babies having a ball - painting alot of stuff black is rather fun...infact, I think it's obvious from the stuff in my gallery that when I DO paint stuff, I like it all...messy-like. ;3
And for the record - his clothes DID get left on the other side of the door...both in the manga AND the anime so I WASN'T being a dirty-minded fangirl...honest. XD

Whaa? Gate Babies?! I've rented the show and read the manga (and I'm up to chapter 55 btw) And I haven't seen the gate babies in the show and neither the manga. But it is really cool when you get to see al by his gate with his long hair and shtuff.

The gate babies are in there....Episode 51 (the final episode of the anime) had the gate babies. I don't belive they were ever in the manga, though. XD

Actually, the gate babies first show when Wrath appears.. not sure which exact episode, however. I haven't seen the older episodes in awhile.

this is definately one of my favourite things that you've ever drawn. I can't get over how immensely gorgeous and professional this looks
Al's skin is just beautiful, and has this nice grey-ee colour to it, that fits in so nicely with the whole background. And his expression is just perfect. I really love how you did the hands, and the style of disappearing too :3 ohgod and ofcourse, the darkness of the gate and the gatebabies, which are just so creepy as they knaw at Al's body. UGH. Your painting skills are just simply, amazing.

Heh, I knew what this scene was before I even read the description or full-viewed. Iβm a dork. Some of the best episodes are when they explain what happened to them at the gate. I donβt think Al doesnβt look scared enough though. When I think of these scenes I think of blood and horrifying screams that would wake the dead @_@ Like the ones Ed makes.

Well, there's no blood involved with Al's body being taken - it was only Ed because he lost parts of his body, not the whole body itself. There's no need to add blood and gore if it's not needed - it would have been overkill.

That is really creepy! Especially the way you made the gate babies hands. The swirling darkness has a great contrast with Al, making it look like he really doesn't belong there/ doesn't want to be there. And that face! Poor Alphonse...

And Al in the 53rd chapter looked all...sad and junk. When I saw him I was like, "NOTHEYCAN'TDOTHATTOALPHONSENO! D:" ...yeah, Al isn't my favorite character, but I don't like when any character is abused. D: Yeah.

I have the Japanese version saved to my computer...where did I read the fan-subed version of it? o_o ...Ah well, I just know that I've read it. |3 ...I've read all of them. Which ticks off a friend of mine, because he keeps on trying to test me to see if I do know what I claim. Which is that I know everything that can possibly be known about FMA currently. |D Seen all the eps and read all the chapters out on the internet. So yeah.

... I'm gonna hafta yell that every time I see them now. @_@;;
They look even cuter--er, creepier!--in black than they did just inked. x3 They also look more insane.. Which probably explains why they're trying to eat Alphonse. XD The whole vibe of the picture really gives off a good 'scrambling' feeling. Alphonse is scared out of his wits and the gate babies are just like.. freakin' out around him. x3 You did the breaking-down thing very well, too. Looks just like it does in the manga.
Personally, I like Al's eyes better gold because it makes him look more related to Ed.. Cause in flashbacks, Alphonse has this power to look a lot older than Ed and very unrelated to him as well..
I love all the paint splatters and stuff. They really just MADE the image. <3
