Like...full view for the pretty reds n' stuff.This was a fun play with the gouache. :3 What started out as a Dark Jak sketch turned out to be a good trial with a bunch of medium (most of all the paint and marker)...Oh gosh, the gouache on the blood was SO uberly fun. Almost TOO fun! Got to blotch it, drip it and smear it as well. I love the fact that it's like he has a head-wound hidden by his goggles and hair.
Though there's these details that don't turn up in the scan - that gash in his left shoulder (our right) actually has this shine to it much like deep gashes do when they start oozing blood. And his shirt actually looks alot like a butcher's apron does after a day of cutting up meat. Also rather happy with the blood around his mouth (yeah...he went all-out crazy with his kill...god only knows what he tore up).
I was going to add some black in the BG - but now I'm glad I didn't. It would have been overkill, and the black border does fine.
{EDIT} Thanks for those who made suggestions on the blood - though I'm ticked that people didn't follow my wishes and started to crit stuff. Finished piece that I rather love and asked NOT to have crit on. I wish people would learn to read.

this piece is rockin my socks yo. I love how there's blood dripping from his hair. The coloring on this is gorgeous as it is so I think you should leave it. (even if paint splattering is SO much fun to do) The blood effects are wonderful.

The blood...man, you definitely had fun doing this, didn'tcha? Hmmm, the background...I like it the way it is. Although...those blood splatters might work. Keep it plain old tan for now, and see what comes to ya.

...I think you should leave it as it is; it looks fine the way it is (I would agree black would be overkill), and I'm already gettin' an uneasy feeling lookin at this by itself *cringes into a tiny ball* so damn realistic blood -- TOO realistic... even for me...

The reds are sooo awesome! Cause I love red! And this a painting! TEH AWESOMENESS! O.O Your paint skillz are teh rock. I think some blood would go nicely on the background.

Okay, crit time.
I think there's a lil' too much red and grey. The yellow on the clothes is a little....ick. And Dark Jak has whitish-grey eyebrows, not black. The anatomy on his neck and shoulders is a little lumpy, and it almosy looks like he has boobs. The shape of his body is really too feminine, because Jak II Jak looks like an upside-down triangle with limbs and a head. The background is a little uninteresting, not much to it. You should've used a different color, IMO, because people use that color WAY too much on backgrounds. So it ends up looking too much like: [link] with more blood.
And that's my two cents o' crit. Don't get me wrong, it's great, I love it. ^^

Did you not, like, even for a SECOND see that I ask NOT for crit? Only a suggestion for extra blood splatters? I swear, nothing ticks me off more to wake up, look at a picture I was so happy that I had finished - only to find someone had gone and torn it down?
And I think you also need to consider that I am NOT a person that follows the character design bit-by-bit. I'm not here to make a typical copy of every shape and style that Bob Rafei does with the characters. I re-work the shape of that characters and even change some colours around to suit. FYI - it's a darker shade of grey that Dark Jak's eyebrows are. I've got a a poster of him on my wall looking at me right now - so I upped the darkness to a grey so that they didn't fade away into his body colour.

I think you could maybe splatter and smear a little bit of red in the BG, but you don't want t overkill the blood effect. It's up to you, but if you're totally indecicive, you could probably stick it into Photoshop or Paint Shop and fool around with red blotches to see what it looks like.

The blood looks awesome. O_o; Never thought I'd ever find myself saying that about ANY picture, but it's true! I say you leave the background as is. It works fine here and it's a nice contrast to all the blood on Dark Jak and his pale skin.

Leaving the background colour stark white would have made the picture rather eye-sore, that's why I gave it the leather-tan wash.

I'd say you shouldn't flick the brush and spatter it. This is great as it is and a whole bunch of random splatters would a) make Dark Jak stand out less and b) draw the viewer away from the focus (that being happy, gore-covered Dark Jak). Spatters would flatten the image, if that makes sense. So, yeah; I like it as is, but get a consensus from the others here (most of whom know more about this than I do).
