Description
I'm not sure what to title this! Just an attempt at some kind of cel shading coz I love trying new styles. ^^ Not sure if it worked but I enjoyed painting it anyway.Sketched on paper then painted in Photoshop Elements.

Hey yo so like, I was wondering: I am interested in achieving at least the art style used in the cel-shaded characters, because it looks beautifully soft and crisp and anime, and I was wondering if there were any basic pointers to achieving this effect. Basically, a few questions like
Is the inking vector or raster, and what program/settings did you use; did you use any specific effects to get your wicked moonglow; and what layers/colours did you use for your shading (which is to say screen? multiply? any particular shade of colour you could recommend? Stuff like that)

I'll try to explain as best I can but sorry, I'm not very technical with my explanations!
I use Photoshop Elements for all my digital art, so no vector, and I use a bamboo tablet to draw with.
The outlines are done with a fairly hard round brush at size 5 to 9 pixels at full opacity.
I always colour the characters with their natural daylight colours first, then duplicate the colour layer and mess about with the hue, brightness, saturation etc to get the desired tones for the setting/time of day. This is how I do most of my pictures so I can definitely recommend this! Each character had 2 colour layers in this pic, 1 for lighting and 1 for shade.
The glow effect was made as a new layer on top of the outline layer. For this, I merged the 2 colour layers together, then used selection tool to select the highlights to copy and paste. Then I put a gaussain blur filter on them to make them glow.
I didn't use any of the layer effects in this picture, just kept it on normal.
To be honest, most of this picture was an experiment. I didn't have a clue how it was going to look when I sketched it.
