Well, they mentioned SA was alumni but still, I felt he fit more of a student role too with how they made him look. It was rather awkward. If I had to make a precise guess, he's gone off to college in that realm and Cadence, while an Alicorn in Equestria, would technically be older, and fitting everything from the wiki and comic books into one plot, she had to learn a lot of princess/adult etiquette before she actually receiving a formal education which is where she would have met him.
