Description
Materials: Prismacolor pencils on black Artagain paperOriginally I wanted to do this picture for the before and after contest in September. I did some work on it but I was sick the whole last week right before classes started. I reluctantly put it down when I got over the sickness and took up 14 more credits. It wasn't until November when I picked it up again and finished the rest.
I cannot help but feel some sense of satisfaction when I look at it despite all of the obstacles that I had to get over before finishing it. Three years ago I used the reference from a magazine. I'd had no formal training and I was completely self taught then. What a difference a few classes and a new attitude toward art can make.
I contacted the photographer, Andrew Parkinson. He wishes me success in the future with my art. He is an excellent photographer and you should check out his website here:

Love the work! Hope you don't mind me using this as a cover art for my new song I'm releasing.

I would prefer if you contacted me before and ask permission to use it. I promised the photographer that this was a study I was doing for non-commercial reasons. I don't even think I am able to give permission to use it especially if it is being used for commercial reasons. It would be unfair to the photographer of the reference photo and it puts me in a bad light. I really don't appreciate this.

This is stunning. Very lifelike, the fur, the tongue, just everything is amazing. Well done!!!! Colored pencils are amazing, I have yet to work on black paper but I have tried a few other colors and like the results.

Thank you! Your feedback is much appreciated.
After some experimentation I think black paper is best suited for pictures with dramatic lighting like this other one. [link]
It's fun to work with but it's annoying when it comes to scanning it.
Also the cheaper stuff that comes in the big rolls picks up the colored pencils better than the more expensive stuff.
