Description
#ShinXChange piece forThe forest was alive with the songs of birds and the babble of a near by stream. Iknu sat down and carefully inspected the precious stones before him. One gem caught his eye. He picked it up and turned it between his delicate fingers. "Perfect."
I've drawn and redrawn this piece so many times it's not even funny. And I've drawn so many forests, I'm starting to feel like I'm just repeating myself. D; I hope it isn't too similar to my last SXC, because that's how I felt with each and every sketch.
But I did try that limited palette thing. I can't believe I used only 3 different colors.
Thanks in advanced for all faves and comments.
I won't be joining next month's SXC btw. I got things to sort out. :c

Gotta say I love the toned background and the signature you use is really pretty I'm not sure if I've ever asked you this but how do you pick colors?

Thank you. I think my signature is bleh. xD
I dunno, I guess it's a combination of light source and mood. I generally have go-to palettes as well, like orange and blue, yellow and purple, brown and green, etc. But other than that, it's kind of intuitive. I can't explain it well. ._.

No worries I think I understand So you save the colors you use to a palettes? I haven't tried that in PS yet. I generally pick one and if I don't like it paint over it.

No, I don't save palettes, I'm not even sure how to do that in Painter. (there's a way to do it but I'm too dumb) ._. I use a fresh set of colors each time, since each painting requires a unique blend of certain hues.

I love the feather colors - very beautiful - and I'm really impressed with how much depth and complexity you got with only three colors! That's amazing! Fantastic job. ^_^

Thank you. Working with a limited palette is a lot of fun, and the result is a nice sense of unity. No more hopping around the color wheel for me. xD

So friggin' beautiful. <3 I love the limited palette, it really works well, and the painterly white outlining's really a nice touch too. I love it!

Thanks dude! The more I look at it, the more I like the limited palette. And clearly I'm doing something right because uploading this made my inbox explode. @__@ It could be that it's just because I drew a pretty dragon, but I like to think the effect of the colors and scenery are significant factors... so I'm gonna experiment with some more limited palettes with different subjects and scenery (definitely different scenery I am so done with forests right now) and see what happens.
Y'know, I see a lot of people do awesome things with a simple white outline but I never thought about trying it myself... but this really works. It brings the purples together, I think, cuz it's actually more of a pale yellow here. Sorry if I seem over-analytical >__>
Again, thank you! Your comments always brighten my day.

This is literally THE BEST Tachingi I ever got or drew! You captured the race just PERFECTLY and Iknu looks sooo much like him!
I LOVE this piece and that's a pity you won't take part in next xchange, but this is understable
Also, I feel so poor with my picture I posted to ShinXChange, compared to yours it's just so amateur.
This is so beautiful, I can't stop starring at it O.O

Ahhh thank you so much! :'D I'm glad you like it, I'm quite proud of it myself. It's probably my best piece to date, so I'm very glad I had this opportunity to draw your character.
nooo I think your picture is lovely! I especially love that you did it with watercolors, it looks fantastic.
