Description Something Ive been working on for ages... it began as a bot standing on a tiled floor, then became a flying battlemech in an explosion filled with shattered glass and fireballs... finally I settled on this, and I thought it came out quite well.

For those who are intertested,
render took just over 24 Hours,
mental ray, 3ds max 8,
GI, Real high quality Caustics, no FG.
I used the lancoz filter for the first time and I love the sharpness it produced,
a few volume shaders which pumped up render time a bit,
and a very small amount of blurring done in PS, but I was real happy with the result so left it as is.

Tell me what you think

I bought a Learning Maya - Foundations tutorial book for Maya 7 and it comes with all sorts of stuff and helped me learn quite a bit, but mostly ive learned Maya just from playing with it. As it says in the book, the architecture and system of Maya can be summed up in one line: Nodes with Attributes that are connected. It may not make sense now, but keep exploring maya and you will find it all comes into place. Maya is complicated, but once you understand the organization and networks within maya, it will all become clear. It is the most open-ended 3d-modeling program in the world. This makes it extremely flexible (you can do anyhting with it), but also one of the most complicated.

me and my 2 sons (ages almost 2 and almost 4) were perusing the DD's this morning and instantly my oldest wanted to look at your piece. He said we should tell you its "very very good" and that we like it. and he's a tough critic. I think its really an imaginative piece, as well, I love how the colours you've chosen lend mystery to the mood.
