Description
The same fleet formation, seen from a french recon plane launched by the large battlecruiser St.Jeanne d'Arc. Depicted are the large battleships Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand and Kaiser Karl der Große with their huge 450mm turrets. The "small" ship following them is the battlecruiser Derfflinger, which is armed with eight 350mm weapons. The large destroyer Einherjar, the smaller Frettchen and Dachs as well as the heavy cruiser Prinz Eitel Friedrich.
The capital ships make evasive actions, as one observer thought the plane was attacking by dropping bombs. Shortly before AAA opened fire, the "bombs" were identified as being seagulls, to the embarassment of the observer and commanding officers.
