The Wale is a reference to Douglas Adams' Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. In this case, it is simply used as something completely random.

It reminded me of that (I love HGG) but it doesn't do to assume that everyone knows that if you cross two missiles and an improbability drive, you get an irritated bowl of petunias and a confused whale. : PΒ
