Thanks Joe (I cheated here by using a painting as a complete reference for composition!)

Thank you, yes, it's so difficult to make them not look like 'dolls'. I still don't really know what the trick is - is it expression? Natural posing? Soft edges?

Hello Enchanted April!
I hope you had a wonderful Season with the Theatre and perhaps you can slow down a bit now?
I certainly wasn't doing much art or keeping up with things here (still struggle with that) but lately I've been having a creative streak so perhaps I'll be seen here a little more often
This image is a direct copy composition-wise of a painting but personally I think it's one of my best - although somewhat dull in colour!

Hello Kibosh, I'm so absent here for several reasons. But no slowing down
Xmas seems to be a year ago... In the moment I'm struggling with an 8 to 5 job, arrrgh, not my thing and I catched a cold, grrr and than I'm one step before starting the largest order of my life. 62 costumes for the grand opening of our new show. Golden glamour girls and boys.
What saddens me is the fear of not being able to get even one picture at all this year. At least now I can use the last days to make some progress with Blender. That's also fun and I lack the inner peace for my own more epic pictures.
But I will always check what you are doing. I find your development so breathtaking and I always wonder where you get the strength for it. Your pictures become more and more intense and I am also happy about your wonderful versatility. In the meantime I can well imagine that there is another profession waiting for you...

Yes, 8 to 5 jobs don't seem natural for humans do they, but we continue the trend! I hope your cold is only a small one - they're annoying because they make us feel so horrible but they don't really do much.
Wow, wow - 62 costumes! That's a huge order, so I guess you'll be stressed for some months to come. Even though you are unable to make pictures does making the costumes fulfil some part of your creative desire? I'm very impressed you are still learning Blender as well, I think I need it to make small items but haven't the motivation to download it yet.
Thank you for your continued interest in my pictures, I never quite know what the next one might be even though I have lots of general ideas. Most seem to involve lots of people though and they are always difficult and time consuming! But there will be lots more peaceful scenes as I probably prefer them overall. I wish you every success with your costume order and hope you can cope with the 8 5 job for a little while.

Dear Kibosh, don't thank me, I enjoy each of your new pictures, even though I often don't have the time and leisure to comment on them. Sometimes I just wonder about the large amount you are able to produce at such high quality and I hope you don't forget real life
I am also healthy again and ready to start working for my new show. It will be wonderful. At least I hope so

Nice to hear you are well again and starting to work on your show! Yes, I find it can take a very long time to view and comment on everyone's art - I struggle with it sometimes.
Real life? What's that? LOL I've never been one to bother too much with real life, it's often so annoying Fortunately I don't have my own family so I can't neglect them by doing artwork after my workday.
When I'm in the mood I do lots but then other times I won't do anything for weeks.

I see that I answered to the wrong message, but whatever.
You're one of these crazy people who add a bazillion of details in their renders. And of course the result reflects the work.
Anyway your "time period" painting-like renders are all remarkable.

Thank you very much! I just really liked the paining (and some of his others) when I came across it one day, so I thought I'd try and re-create it. Sometimes I think I just like building sets for the fun of it!

Wow! Incredible scene. So different from the previous one and so great anyway. The expression of the characters, the light, the atmosphere, the graininess even are great. But really, the light....Impressive.
I must admit having been disappointed to see that it was the copy of a painting otherwise I would have thought you a genius. Still, being able to reproduce it in this way was a feat....

Of course you can put it in my group XIXth or early XXth I would say but after checking the date of the original piece I have my answer. I love your references. There is so much of Dickens in the art of this painter Congratulations again for your work of course

Kibosh-1 In reply to SirTancrede [2019-12-23 06:39:22 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Sir Tancrede! Yes, nineteenth century - although he died in the twentieth. I agree, there are a few pieces that he painted which remind me of Dickens. I may attempt a few more in the future. (I seem to like building 3D sets of other people's paintings for some reason )
Hope you're having a well earned break from work and are enjoying the festive season.

Epic job, once again. There's little to add.
Just out of curiosity - did you chose the slightly different POV for some purpose? ( Think it puts a little bit more focus on the girl).

Thanks Magnus! Been a while, but it's something at least
I actually wanted the ill child to be the main focus but in hindsight should have pushed the left-hand part of the scene slightly closer to her to form a more combined 'unit' of Doctor and patient.
I just called it "The Doctor" because that was the name of the painting rather than him being the main focus.

Man, that's just beautiful. So, so beautiful. A 'recreation' or not, it's quite clear a lot of work has gone into this. It's great to see you poking in again. Wishing you a wonderful end of the year and a fruitful 2020 and beyond!

Thank you so much Glen! Yes, it took me quite a while, I'm very slow at this stuff even after a year or two now, even when I'm 'copying' something.
I hope to have a bit more time to keep up with things soon. I've got tons of galleries to look through.. way behind on your one alone!
Also to you, have a wonderful Holiday break (if you get one) and I'll be seeing you around here in the new year more often hopefully.
