Awesome work! I sure hope I got to take a crack at traditional animation sometime; is it hard to do? Or is it somewhat easy compared to animating in Flash or on the computer? It seems like it's a lot of fun!

I can't do Flash animation for the life of me, so I say it's a whole heckova lot simpler than Flash. And I love it better than animating on Photoshop. It just feels like you have more space to work. It takes a lot of patience, that's all.

Ah, interesting. I figured Flash would be easier, since instead of having to flip a whole bunch of papers to see if the movement is right you could just scrub the timeline instead. But, I've never done traditional animation before, so that's still something of a new area to me.
Another question: have they said anything at your school about how to sync the animation with sound? Or is that something a bit too advanced for a beginner to traditional animation? That's something I'm rather curious about myself...
And sorry for pinning these questions on you, by the way.

I find doing that is kind of cheating. Most cartoons are still animated by hand, but colored by computer. Only certain elements are done on the computer. The experience of animating something will never be as fruitful on Flash as it is by hand. So I find doing it by hand is easier. I don't have to understand anything except for what's in my brain and not on the computer xDDD
Well, I am at an art university, so yes, we will need to do that. I already know how to do that, it was the first thing I taught myself. And we need to add sound to our projects because our grad films will have to have that in them. So yes, we start adding sound in first year.

Well, I wouldn't go as far to call animating in Flash cheating: although I would probably agree with you that doing it the old fashioned way would probably teach a lot more and be more "hands-on", Flash can still be a challenge in itself, just not in the ways you'd expect it to be. It may make some things that are normally more involving in traditional animation easier (tweening, the timeline), but with it comes things that traditional animation just can't do practically and/or efficiently in today's age, along with new challenges for those things as well.
It's really hard to mimic traditional animation in Flash as well, which is why I would love to someday practice traditional animation myself (and also so I wouldn't have to stare at a computer screen for hours on end ); the best you can do is to go frame-by-frame and draw out each frame separately. Although I've met a few people myself that have come awfully close to a traditional look with Flash...
As for sound, that's really cool! Makes me wish I had at least practiced a little hand-drawn animation when I was younger instead of focusing on Flash. I won't bother you on how exactly sound would work for traditional animation: I'll look into it for myself later. And sorry for bothering you with these questions: I've been considering moving to an animation major at my college instead of computer science, so I'm trying to get as many questions answered as I can about the industry and see if it's a worthy venture.

Wow, that's pretty amazing! The movement is very fluid, and it's well detailed for just a sketch. I've always wanted to do my own version of the smooooch video, but it's so much time consuming! D:

You're probably one of the few people who is doing Smoooch via traditional. Wait, the FIRST!

Awesome job! I hope to someday be able to animate like that - although I feel like I may remain a concept sketch artist. I'm not sure I have the passion, drive and enthusiasm necessary to be an animator, as much as I do a "concept designer".
