wow i did a picture from start to finish in cell shading and my computer only crashed twice~!originally i made this for the 's conest involving element angels and this would have been the angel of starlight (yeah like you couldn't read the title) but i had resended my self from not submitting it to thew contest because i was one of the vote counters (at a cirtaint point i think that's only fair (after all no one wants a tie breaker vote to come from someone with there own skin in the game)
the idea for this angel was inspired by my picture: Angel Tears but i wanted this one to be more or less positive and give you the feeling that she was ending the sunset and place brilliant stars in the sky so i used gradeitns on her dress and wings to make it seem like herself was the sunset then came the idea for the background, i was having a hard tiem placing the sun set in the same driection because alot of the colors seemed to just blend right into each other and then i got the idea to reverse it... i'll admit that angel tears is still a better peice, it has more emtion then this one and the back groun matches it better but i still like this one alot...

i actually use a free program available for download "The gimp" just google it and it'll take you right to it. i actually like it more then photo shop (then again i've only used photo shop elements and the demo versions which feel clunky)

Oh you use gimp? XD cool I have gimp, and im glad its free. if you look at my gallery, you'll see a whole bunch of gimp fail from me haha. Do you use airbrush tool for shading or that smudge tool or something else? ^^

for the one were talking on i use (actually of all the things to use./..) the lasso select tool. i created a completly transparent layer under a layer with transparent line art and color under it. first i select the general area and fill that in with the base color. then from there i select the general area that i want to be shadded and i use the fill tool and change the transparency to make it a little lighter (I never use black to shade) and i shade that area. then i go through and i reselct a different area, the area that i want to be higlighted and i picka lighter transparent color. then from there i build on top of these two shades and i shade the detail in slightly darker then the general shad and then i higlight the details with just a little more higlight then in the generally highlighted areas. a normal picture takes me about 4-5 hours

not really i've taken almost 20 hours on some pictures

then you can imply wings XD just make the back ground slightly lighter then the rest of the back ground behind the angel in the vague shape of wings and it gives the feeling of a down to earth angel
